I had to cancel my sub to Daydream due to our financial situation, but once we stabilize I plan on subbing again. Personally, I don’t mind porn/sex at all. I’m a fantasy/romance writer, so yes, my novels have one or two intimate scenes within. When it’s part of the story or the world, I don’t mind it at all. I don’t even mind raunchy porn(I’m probably one of the few females on this site who don’t). Sometimes PWP is outstanding when it’s short and sweet.

So I can definitely see where you’re coming from Kern, and I agree that DD can be a mixture of things, with something for every fan should the demand be high enough. I thought LadyDream was a good idea for that reason (even though I had fears it’d turn into super yaoi nonsense in an effort to ‘combat the porn’).

I enjoy reading “Beyond the veil.” Having us only control the actions of Sharess was a great idea. It somewhat helped the readers focus their votes on the main character’s actions and leave the environment for the writer to figure out. I view that annoying Kyorl warden similar to someone who talking on their cell phone during a movie. She needs to shut up and eat some popcorn because this story is worth being told.

I don’t mind nudity/sex in fan-service, as long as it doesn’t interrupt the story flow and seem out of place (ala space-age) or seem too raunchy. Voting on sex for the sake of sex is an annoyance most of the time. >.>

But really, I have a membership in daydream, Relic Hunter, and Path to Power more as a means to help fund your comic. The extra comics/interactions is just icing on the cake for me.

There’s nothing wrong with a little fanservices as long as it’s tasteful and not over the top. Fanservice is exactly as you say: it is a tribute to an original work by giving fans a gift for their continued support. Whereas porn to me denominates that it’s strictly for getting off on a cheap thrill–no style or class at all.

IMO Daydream is the farthest you can get from crossing the line into the porn arena (and I’ve seen some pretty graphic stuff that people consider “fanservice” when it’s actually just 2D porn drawn with an artful style), but what defines that line is up to the individual….
