Drowkaki was finally upgraded to Poteto 5.1 then to Wax Poteto. A much needed upgrade after so many years without change and with all these bugs plaguing us. We had to trash our custom MODS but it seem that wax poteto include some of the stuff we had. Avatar(go in your profile) and picture uploading. It also come with some new features as well. The most important one is to be able to re-touch everything, including SHI-PAINTER pictures , non animated oekaki and uploaded stuff. I'm sorry we didn't do this upgrade sooner. Now the board is pretty much lifeless, but i hope now that approving new accountsl became optional, that some life will return around here on this fantasy-only oekaki board.

Tigerhawk @ Tuesday, January 25th 2005, 5:44 AM

The title has nothing to do with the picture. Just something that makes me laugh and remember my \"younger days\"...Bite me...is also irrelevant.

Here, read a poem while you wait. It\'s for \"The Verge\" at my school. Literary mag thingy.

When the Rain cries,
and the River bleeds,
Call to me,
the Stigmata of Dreams.

I found stigmata in a dictionary. I like it. And when looking at everyone else\'s art, KHatch uses it too. So I didn\'t snitch it off of her. Stig-MATA...matamatamata
so here is the finished product! Wasn't what I intended but still good. I used thick lines instead of my usual scribbly ones. Yes, this is the same guy I drew before with the feathers and stuff. If you notice the tips of his hair isn't gold. I don't think I'll make them gold anymore for drawing and writting (describing) purposes. Any comments, questions, things you can't stuff in your head?

(Edited on January 27, 2005, 6:22 am)

KHatch @ Tuesday, January 25th 2005, 5:47 AM
LOL I snitched it off of illwillpress.com's Foamy toons.... XD
Nice perspective. Do finish, now! ROAR

Kari Maxwell @ Tuesday, January 25th 2005, 1:14 PM
Hahaha, I like the title though. And the little saying up at the top of the picture. I say that a lot. XD

Tigerhawk @ Wednesday, January 26th 2005, 4:10 AM
LOL I love that site. Was it that one where that chick was in the hospital and that crazy squirrel was talking about the Klavorikian Scarf (spelling ???)?

Starisan @ Thursday, January 27th 2005, 3:02 PM
wow, neato! I love the raw power.....the tail cape is sooo cool. I have said before that I like unique angles and this definately applies. Great job!

darkrose @ Sunday, January 30th 2005, 4:57 AM
Nifty. I so love your character design... the mood of the picture is very awesome and the magicy effect is fantastic. I like these thick lines too, it looks very clean and nice. The whole thing just rocks :D

christabel @ Sunday, January 30th 2005, 9:58 PM
This = pretty darned cool! I'm totally lovin' that pose-- and the detailing you put into the clothing fold makes it SUPER!

<3 for that magical orb.

He reminds me of Link silghtly. X3

Kwetha @ Wednesday, February 2nd 2005, 9:25 PM
SO nifty. I love the colour lineart, it's so innnovative when you add the light source. Talking of the light source, it's really...lighty. The shading on the skin is just WOW. SO SHINEY. *ends random comment*

Alright, that was a lot of work for not much, I know. Her face is too fat, and it's bugging me, and he looks like a little kid. I think his eyes are too low, and her nose is too big, and the lace needed to be finer on her glove so I lost all the pretty details I'd put on there and sacrificed it to the scribble gods. Ah, well... I still love the background, and the dress design, and the little glowy bits underneath the gems that make them look like they're not just pasted onto the dress like a Matell mass-marketed thing. Yes, well, um... this is JT and Cora, the lesbian, that loves him, a guy. No, it doesn't make any sense. From a gaming session... enjoy.

Shakaku @ Monday, January 24th 2005, 8:52 PM
Defiantley unique. All the things you critiqued yourself on are correct. Might I suggest making the guy look slightly bigger than her? It might help. Over all though the concept and the color use is wonderful.

Ashi @ Monday, January 24th 2005, 9:32 PM
You're right, DR. The background is just awesome. It even has a motion type quality that makes the couple centered and shows the flurry of activity all around them. Her dress is just awesome and the shine on the gems is excellent.

Crest @ Monday, January 24th 2005, 11:43 PM
I like their semi-matching outfits and the gems that stand out. The background is pretty wicked looking...especially since I can't draw them. XD The shape of the girl's hair is pretty cool looking, too. Neat design of hte drawing.

Tigerhawk @ Tuesday, January 25th 2005, 5:18 AM
What baffels me the most is...why does everyone have to look so danged perfect? I swear everyone thinks that eveyone needs to look like Barbie or Ken..@_# they're fine. i like them that way. Hey have you ever seen those people with that lumpish looking thing on their nose? Or some African-Americans (some prefered being called Black) have skulls that stick out a bit. It gives them character. Who said we all had to be "perfect"? Look at Gollom, everone I know seems to think he's deathly cute. Everything on us gives us character.

Not all males are big. I know some high school guys that are only 4' 5" if not shorter. Many males I've seen are sninny, those "estro flackas" (bad spanish) The only thing that makes him look weirdish looking, is his right (his right leg not the right side) leg. It comes to close to his left leg and doesn't look like it'll give him support/balance. It could also be his face is just a tad to small.

The Hair is Beautiful! I love your hair. How you draw it is exquisit, as well as your jewels. Yes the lace is a bit to...lacy, but I didn't notice till you pointed that out. The background is good, really good. If you'd blur it it might have given it more motion to the picture.

I love you (not in that "way") so please don't get "GYAH I'M GOIN TO KILL YOU AND HUNT YOU DOWN!!"

KHatch @ Tuesday, January 25th 2005, 5:48 AM
The colouring on her dress is just wonderful! I love the hair too, so shiny!
I do see some colour bleeding around the skin though. That's my only beef.
Wonderful background that adds but not detracts.

Starisan @ Tuesday, January 25th 2005, 2:46 PM
I really like how the fabric drapes on both characters. You did a lovely job on the stones and I reeally really like the background. The look comfortable with each other. wow, I can't get over how much I love the background effect. wonderful.

Kaede @ Thursday, January 27th 2005, 4:25 AM
Wow the clothes are absolutely beautiful, I love the detail in the dress, and then the sleeve of the man's clothes. The hair is absolutely beautiful. Your coloring is amazing. The backround is also very nice. ^^ This is really awesome.

christabel @ Sunday, January 30th 2005, 10:03 PM

Holy. o.o This impresses the heck outta me. X3 I love the folds and the colours and the POSES an' the anatomy and... Man, you did such a fabuluos job! ^^

Chime @ Monday, January 31st 2005, 1:55 PM

Well, the colorign is pretty good, aside from the slight leaks. The hair especially is well done. Anatomy is good, And nice color choices ^^
But! The faces are odd. her face is bigger than his, and the nose looks lopsided, which makes the rest look lopsided. HIS face, just needs the mouth moved a bit, and it would be cool ^^

Nice background :)

Queen_Godzilla @ Friday, March 4th 2005, 10:29 PM
Cora looks like an Amazon woman compared to JT.

It's because she's bigger, body wise and face wise. It's probably just an accident on your part, really. Plus the fact that they're the exact same height. In real life, they're probably of different heights. It's always something to consider when you're doing a composition.

I do agree about his face. It IS probably too round, like you said (I think.) Guys have a more square jaw (usually) and are more... angular. Haha, maybe she likes him so much because he looks like such a girl. Bad joke. I know. XD;;

I think maybe her torso is a TISH too big for her body. Maybe. The dress probably threw you off.

Speaking of the dress -- definitely nice clothing design. For outfits that dark, I would have thought they'd have had darker shadows on them, though.

And it's nice that you merely IMPLIED the background instead of really going all out.

Was drawing this last night and lost the pic when I was sending it...at least I screencapped it. XD

It's suppose to be me as a catboy. So...nothing really special about it other than I spent a really long time drawing it freehand instead of using the bezie tool like I normally do. Otherwise I wouldn't care if I lost it or not. :P

Ashi @ Monday, January 24th 2005, 9:33 PM
Cool, cat-boi! I like his eyes and the tones you used.. also that awesome braid in his hair and that bell collar is just too cute. :3

darkrose @ Monday, January 24th 2005, 11:23 PM
beautiful shading... I always like it when people use tones. It almost looks like it's printed on denim or embroidered on a patch. It is so smooth lineart, fantastic job with that. And yes, the jewelry and collar are incredibly cute <{^ ^}>

KHatch @ Tuesday, January 25th 2005, 5:50 AM
It looks like it could be mass produced and used as a sticker or something.
The lineart is so perfect and the eyes so WATERY LIQUID goodness.
I love the collar =)

Kari Maxwell @ Tuesday, January 25th 2005, 1:17 PM
Kitty! -hugs it- I like this. The way you coloured it is awesome. The texture looks neat. Cutie kitty. ^_^

Ren-Tsuna @ Wednesday, January 26th 2005, 4:37 PM
x) I adore the way you colored this. It seems far to simple for some people to appreciate, but the way you gave it that magazine print look is wonderful. ANd the design in the background also has that simple look to it, yet its in reality so wonderfully complex.

Now about the picture. To put simply, I love catbois. ^_~ I had originally made my persona a catperson too. The varying width of your lineart was a great idea too, it really compliments your drawing style. To put simply, this is a very beautiful picture and I hope to see more of your stuff on the board!

Kaede @ Thursday, January 27th 2005, 5:00 AM
wow. the coloring is awesome. I really love the way you draw eyes, it is awesome. The ears are really cute too. And I love the collar and the simple backround >3

The face is adorable. Really nice work Crest ^^

Queen_Godzilla @ Friday, March 4th 2005, 9:36 PM
It is a good thing that you screencapped it. Seriously.

I didn't know you were a guy! You were so good at drawing curved things (instead of, like, swords and cars) that I thought you were a girl! Sorry!

But wow, you've actually grown a braid that's down to your chest? o_O Damn.

You have very clean lines, and good sense for proportions. I like how you did that comic-like tone with the diagonal lines. It really adds character! And it makes you look sooooooo pretty :D

Argpoodle's love, however...
*****AND FOLKS, a capybara is not a dog nor is it related to one, it's the world's largest rodent, a giant rat, if you will, and it like comes from Africa or somewhere, I've forgotten. Can get as much as 500 lbs, they can.

Harlequin @ Wednesday, January 19th 2005, 6:48 AM
Verna, I think Starisan meant comments are fine to improve on things now, while it's still a work in progress. Since it's FAR easier to fix things in the initial stages. lol

celestial crou @ Wednesday, January 19th 2005, 7:12 AM
This is my favorite of yours! The eyes are very well detailed. You have excelent tear duct things and the ridges over the eyes and ....its so pretty! The nose is also done quite well for a mouse. (KUDOS) THough it seems like the nose should be shifted to *my* left. Just a little. I suggest using the copy button. IT works wonders. the mouth may also have to shift a little so that it corasponds. And that mouth. XD I love it! The skin tones are almost done it looks like. (unless you are going for a more extreme color variation in the shading and highlights) And the bg. Its simple but when this pic is finnished i think it will complement nicely to your figure. I love the use of cool tones. Though with this FREEZING weather my love may change. LOL. Also on the head and back part of the head you did a nice correction. Now all you have to do is clean up those lines and make him/ her PRETTY. What color have you chosen for the eye color? FINNSIH SOON!

NOW FOR A BRIEF COMMENT TO THE OTHER DROWTALES MEMBERS! Starisan is my friend from college and i invited her to the drowtales board 'cause of the friendly atmosphere. PLEASE do not make me regret it. Before the worm we were all trying to have everyone comment more and be helpful. Which means actual critiquing. Not stating the obvious.

Kari Maxwell @ Wednesday, January 19th 2005, 6:21 PM
It looks nice so far. I have to agree about the nose though. It should be shifted a little by the way you have the shadows. It looks reallt nice though.

Starisan @ Wednesday, January 19th 2005, 8:50 PM
Thanks for the comments so far. You're right it's not done yet but I just wanted to try something new. I appreciate all the comments and critiques because I am always looking to improve. Thanks so much Crou for being helpful and for suggesting I join this board. I understand that there are certain expectations and I am truly trying to do my best to follow them especially since I made some mistakes at the beginning. I understand that sometimes my work can be sloppy and it is something that I am trying to improve on. I must say that I am happy to be able to see so many different concepts and styles of art because I love art and if there something that I love as much as doing it, it is looking at other peoples. Thanks so much Crou and I hope to finish this soon. And thanks to everyone else who has left me comments.

This pic DESERVES many comments. Its looking beutiful.

darkrose @ Thursday, January 20th 2005, 8:52 PM
Wow, great start! I love the eyes, and the nose is VERY well done, although it appears to be tilted a little too far, as in the angle isn't quite right. He's looking more towards the camera than that. Other than that, the proportions so far are AMAZING, truly beautiful. His head is just the right shape and size, the eyebrows are more like real eyebrows, thick and slightly differently shaped, his ears are the right place on his head and the angles match on both sides. His neck is just beautiful, keep going! This is going to be totally great!

Kaiera @ Thursday, January 20th 2005, 10:13 PM
ow wow! realistic-ish looking...wonderful. I think my favorite part so far is the nose ^_^ not sure why, but I love realistic-looking noses. Of course the eyes and lips look wonderful too :D I hope you finish it soon!

KHatch @ Thursday, January 20th 2005, 10:37 PM
This will be very nice if you finish it. The skin is well shaded so far, but you need a lot of highlighing still. Unless you're going for a gentle light setting, then well it's pretty good like it is, just a few more shadows here and there.
I'm liking the green eyebrows. Can't wait to see this done!

Starisan @ Saturday, January 22nd 2005, 6:04 PM

The anatomy itself is wunner-ful ^^ Especially the eyes - theyre so realistic. I love the shading thats on the neck and shoulder.

But Im always drawn to that background. Perhaps its because the finer details of the Elf havent been added on. Its so....cerulean >3 I have no wordds to describe it.....

PLEASE finish ;_;

Queen_Godzilla @ Friday, March 4th 2005, 8:17 PM
Hm. The facial structure is pretty well done. The eyes are the only thing slightly off kilter (just one, really, and that's only if you really, really look.)

And now we get to the real issue at hand, the one that is the biggest impedance to the picture: the highlights and shadows.

Everything has highlights and shadows. It's a fundamental lesson in illustration. How they are applied makes or breaks a picture.

In your picture, the most I see is shadows. Her skin, even in faint light, should have a highlight, because if there's enough light to cause shadow there is enough light to cause a highlight. And considering how I can see your shadows, but none of your highlights (save the extra sheen on the elf's eyes and lips) you probably need to work on this.

Let's also discuss the shadow placement. The light seems to be coming from the left. At least, it seems so. Either that or the top left. Placement of a light source is equally important, you know. Having light and shadow just randomly everywhere isn't exactly the way things are done. So... just pick a light source someday. It makes things better, trust me. Takes a while to get used to, but it does look awesome when it's done.

I'd want to address your smudging, but I won't. It's really hard to blend stuff in OekakiBBS.

This is Moriona my black Asperi Nightmare! Asperi\'s are usually and only white to a pale light-blue.
Moriona is some Elvish language for \"dark gift\" I\'m pretty sure it\'s Tengwar. Mori is Kal\'s best friend. He helped her from getting bit by a werewolf but he was to late. More on the story but my hands hurt.
Alrighty then! The picture is complete. I'm really happy with how the leaves came out. Time may be wrong because I was commenting for a minute or so. The fireflies came out alright. Sorta reminds me how I made stars in Photoimpression with my mouse before my tablet. Gwad I really dislike that program.

color on black is tough to pull. you have a good sense of muscles, especially on the dragon. try using color compliments in the shadows, using the opposite color on the color wheel make shadows seem more rounded and have more depth.

I haven't seen a dragon like that before; you should draw this one another time :)

darkrose @ Sunday, February 27th 2005, 5:39 PM
wow, this really rocks. Especially the expressions, and the whole dragon. I've never seen a dragon that looks like that, which is awesome because it's so original. The lion's face is so well done, it's amazing, and the grin on the dragon is menacing and, well, kinda cute. In an evil way. *ahem* The fir effects are really good, and the background gives it an almost surreal quality, with the black leading up to the night sky and it's van gho-esk moon. (sorry about the butchered spelling people <{^.^}>)

Ikena @ Sunday, February 27th 2005, 6:05 PM

Shocking! The pose is amazing. I like the contrast of the skin tones.. the colouring and shading is really well done... Her expression is pretty horified.. I wonder where her pupils are, though. She looks almost like a zombie without them - if it weren't for the rest of her expression. And that hair! It's just GORGEOUS! Oh my goodness! So much detail is in that hair! It's lovely!
I agree with the person who said she looked like a singer.

Thanks toten for uploading this :)

I drew this a few days ago actully, but just now had toten upload it. It was supposed to be a female looking dragon, but some of the features remined me of a horse.

also please i ask dont point out the front leg that is bent. Ive had enough people at SA and on AIM tell me its bent wrong, looks odd or out of place. its leg are not based on a horse, i want to make that clear.

(Edited on January 18, 2005, 6:01 am)

darkrose @ Tuesday, January 18th 2005, 6:13 AM
OK, so no comments on the leg thing. Still, this is a BEAUTIFUL image. The colors are so soft and vibrant, the details so perfectly in place. The dragon-horse-thing looks perfectly at home in this environment, very calm and peaceful and so free. Lovely work, freakymary! Welcome back!

KHatch @ Tuesday, January 18th 2005, 8:51 AM
I love this a lot! So pretty and smooth.
While I can see the horse and the dragon in this beast, I also see human. The way the front legs are done is, to me, reminescent of the thighs of a humanoid. That's what I see. It didn't bother me at all, I think it's great!
I really like the serene face and the flowing gorgeous hair. More arts, freakymary! I loves your stuff.

Pretty. ^_^ And no, I didn't mean different of "ONG! It's bent wrong!" I actually meant I like it because it is different. It makes it more interesting.

Wow, there is a lot of detail here. Wonderful. The hair is great and so it the anatomy (very accurate). I have mentioned this before but I really like the blur background effect because it really gives the feeling of depth. Very pretty and very magical.

Kage Kitsune @ Thursday, January 20th 2005, 1:26 AM
This is awesome! I love the dragon/unicorn's face the most, the eye is wonderful and the hair aww the hair ::pets it:: the background is kind of vage and fits in with the mist and everything ^_^

Chime @ Thursday, January 20th 2005, 3:34 PM
Ahh, another one of Mary's creations. As always, the style is wonderful. The water seems a bit strange, like a wave is about to loom over the "dragon" . The reast of the backgground, however, is wonderful - your trademark taxture-use is lovely ^^
The shading on the body is great, but the hair draws the attention away. It looks slightly out-of-place here, but still, Wonderful work ^^

Kaede @ Saturday, January 22nd 2005, 1:00 AM
You are so amazing Mary. This is awesome. I love your color choices, and then your coloring itself is amazing. The horse-dragons eye is just beautiful. I really love that backround too, the water is awesome! =D

Shakaku @ Monday, January 24th 2005, 9:17 PM
Beautiful setting and beautiful creature! Smooth and gentle shading. It's awesome. I know you said that people keep sayimng the front -leg- is wrong, but I also realize that yeah, it's suppose to be that way. I think whay confuses peple is the fact the way the paw curls under. not really the leg itself. Also the front legs have slightly thicker shading which draws your eyes to them. The anotomy is very well done and the over all look is excellent

Queen_Godzilla @ Tuesday, March 1st 2005, 9:16 PM
Hey Mary.

First of all -- the background is quite lovely. I believe your usage of textured brushes for the landscape was excellent. It really brings out the textures present in nature of such objects. Hoorah!

The dragon is really lovely too. Unique design for something, having two sets of backlegs.

As for the legs -- I think it's not the arms per se that throw it off -- I think it's the shoulders and the way the arms stand with it. I honestly don't know how to move that shoulder, but I think that's the problem; that's where I'm getting that artist vibe.

Starisan @ Saturday, January 15th 2005, 4:31 AM
awww, that's very sweet although I wonder what is being plotted...to the drawing. I love the contrast between the hair and the dark face and the shadows and highlights are beautiful. I find the eyes interesting (one green and one blue) is it so in real life? The ears look great by the way and so do the teeth, not too much detail but just enough ( I wish I knew how to do that). Great hair too, heh, I like so much of this...Wow, wonderfully rich color on the purple shirt, it feels velvety. The only thing that I am unsure about is how you portrayed the ear showing through the hair but I don't know what suggestion that I would give...maybe make it more sublte..? Like the Background too, yea!

Kage Kitsune @ Saturday, January 15th 2005, 10:52 PM

Chime @ Monday, January 24th 2005, 1:52 PM
The over-all picture is fabulous - the facial expression of Lai'Rena, but Arpoogles' looks .... strange. He looks too old O_o

My favorite parts are the hair, and the background. The hair looks so soft, touchable even. And the bacground is life-like - Though it does seem they are standing in front of a pastel painting if I look too hard ^^;;;

Beautiful work, KHatch. Keep it up ^^

Queen_Godzilla @ Tuesday, March 1st 2005, 7:00 PM
Gah, you are getting BETTER and BETTER at digital painting, KHatch. Honestly.

I like how you colored most of the outlines in this one, instead of leaving them all black. It just works so much better, I think. I should start doing it myself. It just makes things more realistic in my eye, that line coloration.

And the texure in the actual coloration and values is really a nice touch. It really adds to the colored lines and makes it even more realistic. I especially love the smooth skin for some reason.

And, wow. Those are some HUGE smiles. I like the poses too. And HOLY HELL, how did you get the hair to fall so nicely? (And the clothes to wrinkle so well?)

Ah, I dunno. I just *REALLY* like this.

Harlequin @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 12:49 AM
You know, I like the soft feathery look to those wings, but the body by contrast seems too blurry. Actually everything seems to be too blurry. There's really no depth of field here. The background and the figure are apparently on the same plain...thus background isn't really BACKground. And...her butt...well that's a mighty flat butt. lol Her legs are too straight, thighs tend to have a little bit of a curve to them. I like the idea of this, and the view, since I really love those wings, just some anatomical and technical things that I have problems with really. Other than that GREAT colors. Love that red hair with the muted blues in those wings.

Kern...we get to spank people? When did that happen? No matter! AT LAST MY HOUR HAS COME!!!!!

Segzhan @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 8:40 AM
Well, one of the requiertment of the assignement was that everything had to be blurry like a dream. ;p But thanks for the comments, guys. ^__^

Tigerhawk @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 3:04 PM
I like it blurry. Well if it represents something in a dream what does the picture represent? If it was a dream. The hair came out great. Though it should be a tad bit blurry and the wings more fluffy ^^ . Good job.

Catboi- your enforcing the rules has gone a tad to far. It's NOT for YOU to decide whether it's spamming or not, it's the moderators. The "2 pictures in one day" is on;y considered spamming depending on the content in the picture and/or on how long it took. AND it's also stated it's for the moderators to decide. I comment quite a bit and I still don't get the somments I would like from people. And when I do, they're empty. They're just said. No meaing behind it. Why? because this rule where you can ONLY draw if you have the 5 c=1 p. Sounds good, and SEEMS to work but when I recieve comments I feel they're only commenting so they can draw. I HAVE to comment if i would like to draw on here. I have no other choice. Yes I domment empty comments because I occasionally there are times even I cannot find things to comment on. Sorry guys. Instead of trying to be Mr./Mrs. Nice guy let the mods do there job. What the heck are they here for if you keep doing it for them. I understand you're only trying to help but somethings in order to help we've got to restain ourselves. Trust me I know.

Segzhan @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 4:37 PM
To Tigerhawk;

Yes, it is kinda supposed to be a dream. More the representation of a tought.

The assignement was to choose a story-song, and then we had to try to think like the character. I just represented the fact that the character wanted to fly away that she felt powerless in what was happening to her (this is why she's naked. Vulnerability.) And then, she got her innocence destroyed beause of the darkness of her life.

I translated you the song, so you know the story. ;p

Tigerhawk @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 4:42 PM
Alrighty. Hmmm. I invision her having broken wings, wanting to fly but can't because the pain incapability to. I also invision boney-like claws trying to take her into darkness.

Segzhan @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 4:46 PM
I was planning to do something like that for the third part. :P

windblade @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 8:35 PM
TigerHawk, please, if you want to fight someone, do it by e-mail?
On the drawing: I like the way you blurred the colors on the wings, it gives them a much softer look, like real fluffy feathers instead of drawings of feathers. This works well for the hair too, and maybe for the grass, but the rest of the drawing would benefit from a less blurry look...
Lil tip! You don't have to, but I feel your pictures would have a greater impact if you used less... bright colors. Make them a bit more dramatic by making them less pure, if you see what I mean

Tigerhawk @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 9:06 PM
Who said I was fighting. I was simpling commenting on a problem that I felt was getting out of hand.

Little Elf @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 9:26 PM
The wings, there are feathery. Yeah, I'm just repeating, but they are! The details on her hair and wings are very pretty. Yush.

darkrose @ Sunday, February 27th 2005, 5:37 PM
I really like the lineless one. Her wings look beautifully soft and feathery, and her hair looks just perfect if not a little ragged at the bottom (although most people's hair isn't in pristine condition, so it makes it more realistic). The metal pole is really very well done, and I like the overall feel of the picture. Good job :)

I like the "ear ring" lol i like the purple lighting where that ball is. the coloring in the eye is really good.

krypto @ Sunday, February 20th 2005, 7:46 PM
yo wassa tiger. just popped in, lol. really five comments = one picture??? awww.... wonder what happens if i dont... lol, anyway, thank you so much for the comment!!!

catboi incubus mishi @ Sunday, February 20th 2005, 8:08 PM
It's in the rules, I certainly hope you read them - "Being in a hurry is not an excuse, if you can find 30 minutes to draw a picture online, you have 20 seconds to write up a comment or critic on other images on the board." You need to comment on at least five other images - and that does not count your own.
Now, as for the image - it has a wispy feel to it, almost like she's carved out of smokey marble. I really like the two curls of hair near her chin, I really wish you had carried out that idea throughout the whole image. My suggestion, rather than draw the whole thing in watercolor, is to use solid at first, then shade with watercolors to give it a cleaner look. I like the little lines on her face, she looks like cracked marble, it would have been neat if you had continued that in the whole image. Lastly, which hand is she holding up? By the way her fingers are positioned, it looks to be her left, while the way it's positioned on the canvas makes it look to be her right hand. Anyway, nice first post, and please follow the rules, it'll make everyone happy. :3

Amazing coloring. I like it. o.O

krypto @ Sunday, February 20th 2005, 11:53 PM
Uh....these rules are a bit odd... lol, I don't want to change them or start a revolution here, but in my opinion, you're just pushing ppl to comment even though they don?t want to. I think that you should say something if you ACTUALLY have something to say... not to make it up just to get your comment count up. Well in any case, ill follow your rules, hehehe.
Yeah the hand... shoulda put more effort into it. DONT MIND IT. It?s my first pic here. I just wanted to see how the mechanics of this oekaki board work (the retouch and et cetera)... it?s her left hand btw. lol XD will take advice of drawing my lineart (if I ever had one:S) more clearly. Peace out!

catboi incubus mishi @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 12:16 PM
It's a give and take process, Krypto. If you expect people to comment on your work, you should comment on others - because they want comments, too. It's not a peculiar rule at all, in fact, it's one of common sense and courtesy.

krypto @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 3:46 PM
there\'s such a thing as too much courtesey you know. i actually dont care if you comment or not. i just post for the art, not for the comments.

I'm going to be with Mishi on this.
Maybe YOU don't want comment, but other people want/need them. Some of us actually want to improve, and tips from other artists are always welcome. And please don't tell me it wouldn't bother you to see that people commented on every other pic except for yours.
Now, on the pic... the shading is a bit strange, as if the light didn't come from anywhere... or, actually, it's as if the light came from everywhere at once. You have a good grasp of the general shape, it's just the shading that would need a bit more work =)

krypto @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 8:56 PM
oh god, no i woulnd't mind. i will follow the rules, k? i just find them odd cause this is the first oekaki board that HAS such rules.
ANYWAY, lets drop this subject. My shading is odd i know. but i was lazy so BEH. plus this was meant to be a practice pic... wish tehre was a board like that here.... :(

Time for a real comment, huzzah! Well, since I don't know French, I'm not even going to bother with that. ^^; The first thing that struck me about this image is the thick and somewhat sloppy lineart - I think it would have looked better if the lineart were thin and sloppy, or thick and clean, like it is in her shoulder and arm area. I don't much like the bold green background, it doesn't go well with her red and black outfit to me. O: I really like the shading on her socks and her skirt, the plaid looks really good. :DDD The perspective on the table and mirror seem slightly off, but I can't say how. I like the added in wings. ;]

Verna_Venisa @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 12:08 PM
This is very pretty, i like the concept quite a bit. However, the table seems rather ackward looking to me. If this was a real table, it would be slanting downward toward us ((as cool as that would be)) ><; It also looks like the table would be morphing into the wall, because of the lack of ground-ness. Other than that though it looks great. I like her skirt, the plaid is cute ^^

Prismatic @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 1:33 PM
This is really quiet pretty. Wonderful job on the pose!~ And I really like how you carried the shadows through out the picture. Her outfit is really pretty and I like the slope to her wings. Even the image in the mirror seems to line up well. I have to agree that perhaps the table seems a bit awkward however.
I really like what you do with the shading. It brings a lot of depth to the picture~ Almost ready to get a translator so I can read your quote.

Segzhan @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 5:00 PM
Funny people likes the clothing. In that assignement, we had to draw ourselves as the main character of the story-song (see my second picture for explanations of the project). So it is me, with my clothes. ;p

darkrose @ Saturday, February 26th 2005, 10:42 PM
Well the coloring is definitely improving. I like the plaid skirt, it's very nice. The lineart bothers me, I'll be honest... but maybe you can do your regular thick scribbled lineart and then start a new layer over the top and just go over it in a thin, solid line? That might clean it up a lot, because your skill is obviously there.

Ikena @ Sunday, February 27th 2005, 5:55 PM
I cant read it, tho the pic is nice.
The perspective seems a bit off tho it kinda suits the mood of the pic. I must say that I ove her skirt =3

Pretty lights and magic effects. You rendered the luminosity pretty well. And the hair is beautiful. Pretty piece of art you got here. =)

Little Elf @ Tuesday, February 22nd 2005, 7:33 PM
This is very pretty. Her hair looks great with the littel details with the lighting and stuff. The little fire/dragonflies?? are nice with their greeness. The little trails they leave are pretty. If you were going for the blurry effect, I think you should've used the watercolor tool for her eyes. They kinda stand out. I like your signature at the bottom! I's all prettyful... XD Nice job.

darkrose @ Saturday, February 26th 2005, 10:37 PM
I always love how soft your shading is, even when things get a little wonky in the lineart and anatomy areas your pictures are ALWAYS pleasant to look at just because of how well they flow. The hair is gorgeous, I love how it spills out over her arms and the ground, and the little glowy magic bits are very cool indeed. Her expression is soft and amused, which fits perfectly, and the background is just the right texture and color to really bring it all together. Wonderful job.

catboi incubus mishi @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 1:31 AM
First of all, welcome to the board! Very interesting character, but what first struck me was how the background clashed with her - I don't like the use of orange for the background, it doesn't look good with her red hair. Perhaps it could have worked better with a red, and a darker shade of grey. Now for the figure - Angelus, yes? Anyway, I have to say, her cloak, outfit, and the stone she's kneeling on all melt together too much. I would have suggested slightly different shades for at least the rock, perhaps a lighter grey, or even with a brownish tinge. Now for her face, it has a masculine feel to it, I think because it's so oval-like. I probably wouldn't have known she was a woman had you not said it in the description, and I really had to look close for her breasts. (Wow, that sounds perverted~) Her .. artificial eye, I'm assuming, is quite interesting, I like the black marks running down her cheek. I especially like the shading on her gloves, it really suggests a shiny leather, although that component is missing from the rest of her outfit. That's a mighty difficult pose you did, and you pulled it off quite well. I think her feet look bit, and lack the detail the rest of her clothes have. As for her cloak, like I said earlier, it melts in with the rest of her outfit, and doesn't stand out much. I like how you gave it highlights near the top, you probably could have given it more on the lower part of her cloak, as well. Finally, her hair. I really like how it's flowing in the way that it is, although I would have opted for a light light shade of red, a pink as a substitute for the white highlights. They seem too harsh to me.
But. This is a very very good first submission, and I really look forward to more of your work. (:

I was trying to get her to look like she was blending with the shadows...ANy advice on how to achieve that look properly??

darkrose @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 7:40 PM
I have to say this is really excellent. The crouching pose is beautifully done, the shading is fantastic, her hair is pretty and swirly. She looks like an assassin <{^.^}> So welcome to the board! It's lovely, fantasy themed, well drawn, over the time limit, and generally wonderful. Congrats! Not many new people get a grasp of the rules on their first try.

Prismatic @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 8:58 PM
Hmm. I think this is really well done, especially for your first submission!~
Welcome to the board~
Her pose is excellent, as has been said before. You even got the hands correct. something I'm horrible with. Let's see.. Her outfit is really nifty. And as has been stated the shine on her arm thins is really well done, making it my favorite part of her outfit.
Now.. for blending into the shadows this definatly wasn't a bad start~ I think adding more shading of dark as it gets farther away from the light would of helped with the depth of the shadows. So.. you could sort of start with the grey that's on her pants and end in an almost blacky charcoal color in the left corner of her cloak and shadows. Wow, hope that made sense.
The only thing that seems off to me is the highlighting of her hair. Her hair is really pretty, and the swirly parts of it are groovy... but in the shadows there probably wouldn't be highlights. At least not all the way down where the rest of her is in the shadows. I could be wrong though.
I like the background. It looks almost as though she's hiding in the shadows of a fence or something, with light shining through.

catboi incubus mishi @ Friday, February 18th 2005, 9:21 AM
Well, my suggestion would be to have quite a bit less orange and more grey/black - or at least, like I said earlier, substitute red for the orange. I think the background probably isn't suited for a 'disappearing into the shadows' deal, it reminds me more of a room with holes in the ceiling, and light is pouring through. Which, actually, is really cool. XD Maybe nest time you draw her, you could have her in a dark alleyway, or in the midst of trees. Make her more shadow than substance. :)

Segzhan @ Sunday, February 20th 2005, 10:04 PM

sorry to say this, but there are a few anatomical mistakes and it'd be better to correct them before you start coloring, mmh? =p The legs are much too long for the body, and the pose (at hip-level) seems extremely uncomfortable... From the torso up, though, it's a very good start! Will comment more when you're done.

woah. You really made a big effort for the shading and the highlights! All the folds in Loki's robe are AMAZING! That fireball looks pretty cool too! (Is it me, or is the side of his hat catching fire? =p wouldn't surprise me, it'd be Loki's style!)

Thanks a lot, Ghis!

Ghislain WildCat @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 1:44 PM
*to windy* Well, It's more like the fireball reflecting on the hat than anything... but seeing it your way, it's true that this little lighting effect could be turned into his hat starting to catch fire. XD

Bad windy! You managed to turn one of my rare serious pics into a humorous one! XD

darkrose @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 5:31 PM
ooh, is fantastic! Beautiful job with the folds in the cloth, and details like stiching are important! Everything looks really great especially lineart wise. My only comment would be a lack of contrast between shaded and lit areas... fire has a nasty habit of throwing darker than normal shadows and bright orange/yellow highlights... you've got the highlights down pat, all that's missing are the black spots. Still, it's excellent work, and it's good to see your art again. <{^ ^}>

Prismatic @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 9:04 PM
Very nice pose. I am especially fond of the clothing and hat. Ths shading and highlights are magnificant. And the details to it are wonderful.. such as the stitching.
The face was well done and looks rather proportional. As well as the hands~
I like how the background is blurred bringing more focus to him.~

krypto @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 12:03 AM
i can't see anything wrong with the individual you drew. The bg is nice too. lol, good job, nice use of colors and great proportions.

Karasu @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 1:35 AM
wow, the first think that caught my eye about this picture is the wonderful and intricated coloring/lighting/shading on the skirt! I think it was dont just -perfectly-, however i think that the shading on the face could use a little more contrast, as well as the wand (the wand jewel seems to stand out too much and the stick part of it doesnt seem to stand out at all) I can see you put a lot of effort into the clothing so I give you that credit!

Ikena @ Sunday, February 27th 2005, 5:42 PM
Ah! I really like the pose and his expression =3

It was supose to be Lei, the boy version of me (can be viewed here: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/5677870/ ), but after I did the face and started on the hair, I realized it looked nothing like him.

So I played with it some more and realized... it was Nicholas!

Your all familiar wit my Christmas Angel Noel (can be seen here: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/13726884/ ), well this is his rencarnation, the very Americain, Garfield loveing, Angelic Librarian turned Guardian Angel. This is a MUCH younger version of him. Go here to see an old 1997 version of him: http://www.angelfire.com/art/ryuyujin/Nicho.html

He's giveing all of Drowkaki little valintine notes because thats how I view V-Day... a time to make everyone smile any way I can!

Awesome image, Jenn! I always always love your images, and this is no exception. I love the lack of lineart, and the angel's happy expression. x3
Happy Valentine's day! :D

Phyr @ Tuesday, February 15th 2005, 2:30 AM
Wow. this is really really cool! i love the angel and your coloring style. ^_^ great job. ^_^

darkrose @ Tuesday, February 15th 2005, 4:28 AM
Whee! Pretty! I love your shading style so much... it's always so clean and nifty, and this has such an amazing sense of flow to it. So happy!

KHatch @ Tuesday, February 15th 2005, 5:43 AM
The linelessness of this is wonderful! I'm in love with those pants, in particular.
Great perspective and shading and everything!

Prismatic @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 9:07 PM
I agree with your views on valentine's day. That day.. at least I should say earlier in the day I had all the people I care about come over and cooked a big meal for them and gave them all a card~
I really like this picture. He has such a nifty pose. And of course your use of solid shading is amazing! And lineless. Really this is fantastic.
I really like his expression and his shoes! They're both rather detailed. and the coloring in his wings is great.

windblade @ Saturday, February 19th 2005, 10:59 AM
As always, your work is really, really cool-looking! You have a great understanding of fabrics physics, the folds look great, and the way his shirts is blowing around really gives the impression of movement and "falling"... Happy valentine's day (late!)

(Hee, he must have the same hairdresser as Northe!)

Karasu @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 1:33 AM
OH my gosh, this is so beautiful for having almost no black line art here. Not that it's a requirement for beauty, but it shows a skill that few can perfect...and I think you're pretty darned close to perfection here. I love how you captured the motion, honestly, I think it's just fabulous. I think that the hand (and I know its really hard to do that perspective for a hand) needs a LITTLE work, it seems a little out of proportion for the perspective. But. You know. Whatever you think, you be the artist! otherwise, I think you did a spectacular job here and I really like this as a fav of yours!

Verna_Venisa @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 12:12 PM
This is so awesome *o*! Your style is so original and fun *stares*

Amary-chan @ Thursday, February 24th 2005, 8:41 AM
love your style, great use of block coloring. the pose and composition are set up very well as well

Crest @ Friday, February 25th 2005, 6:53 PM
Love the design of the image. The wings are really nicely drawn out and I think the hair looks awesome. The flow of the shirt is nicely protrayed and I adore the way you colored the image with the lack of some lineart. I like the shoe. XD

Cray...again...this time he's hiding in some trees...naked... Okay, I have no idea why Cray is naked in some trees, but he is. XD

darkrose @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 12:19 AM
Cute! *loves* Wonderful everything here, from the lineart to the coloring and shading... although it looks rather like the picture was compressed somehow from the upload... that's kind of disappointing, because of how much it rocks. Yay mullet power!

Crest @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 12:32 AM
Yeah, it got compressed when I had to save it and send it to Toten.

Kari Maxwell @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 2:36 AM
Your art reminds me of someone... It really does. It's really neat as well. I like it. I like the background as well, it's all coolness and whatnot. -nods- Cute character!

windblade @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 3:46 AM
Wow, the bright hair colors and eyes really give life to this picture. The highlights in his hair are well done! I like the character design.

Jennifer, The Blue Narian @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 4:01 AM
I've always adored how simple and bold your solids are. And the colors just contrast and complemint each other perfectly.

now as for why he's naked in the trees.... *shoves the evil perverted side of her nature back in the closet" Gad! Sometimes an over active imagination is a BAD thing.

Kaiera @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 10:55 PM
ahh.....Cray looks wonderful as usual. Long live the mullet! I love his expression....looks like someone just stumbled upon his nekkedness. ...Speaking of which...he can hide in my bushes <3

KHatch @ Tuesday, February 15th 2005, 5:54 AM
The lineart is so crispy I just want to crunch it all up!
The way the hair falls on the shoulders is a nice touch, and the pretty highlighting is oh so shiny!
Very cute.

Prismatic @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 10:10 PM
I like the color combination. They're cute. the lips and nose are really well done! The bright colors in this are great. And I like how their hair just has a sudden change of color. And the carrying through of red throughout other parts of the picture~
The background is all nifty like too. I like the solidness of it with all the little crescents

Amary-chan @ Thursday, February 24th 2005, 8:34 AM
i like your coloring style, very cell-like. your lines are very good and its nice how you used varying line width throughout, especially with the details

Thanks so very much Toten! Thankyouthankyouthankyou. If you all want to see the animation you have to find the original one I was working on. Sorry. To answer Darkrose's question on the ring of shadows, tis simple. Watch the animation. Lots of cuts and pastes. I'm terrible with Celtic stuff (even though this isn't Celtic) so I "cheated" by cut and pastes. Still not perfect but hardly noticable unless you paste it to your background and tile it. *cough*

The Chick with the hair to the left side of the screen is Kal short for Kal'daka (drow meaning "wolf" sounded better and prettier than Druag). She is "me" in a story I'm doing with a "friend" or more so was.....*grumble* She has major additude problems, like me.
The other chicka is also me, her name is Ely, short for mine, Elissa...gwah I hate that name...Means "from the blessed Isles." Found that out recently. Anyways, but she has anger issues too. And likes to jump around.

Please feel free to ask questions, I love those more than comments but I love comments too.

yah, ok, wow. this is by far the best I have ever seen you do... this is fantastic. The shadowy fractal thing (which is uber nifty... how did you DO that?) ROCKS. Seriously. The the two girls, their outfits are lovely, the coloring and shading is superb, very believeable. Their expressions are determined and set... the profile is excellent, the lineart is clean, the little details are really nifty (like the braids in the human one's hair). Overall this is really quite, uh, amazing. I am very very impressed. Excellent!

windblade @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 1:56 PM
Wow... even if it's cut-and-paste, the black circle is truly a masterpiece. it's so complex, and there's so many details! It's like a cathedral window.

KHatch @ Tuesday, February 15th 2005, 5:56 AM
Good job onthe copy-paste of doom!
The linelessness quality of this is great. I love the pulled back hair, so well done.

Prismatic @ Friday, February 18th 2005, 1:39 PM
This really is great~ You did a lovely job on the cutting and pasting.. and really on just the design of border in the first place. It's quiet lovely.
I really l ike the concept of this, how both of them are sort of different aspects of you. That's really nifty.
The clothing is pretty. Nice shading on it. I really like the brown glove. I think I need a pair. Good work on the profiles.~

Tigerhawk @ Sunday, February 20th 2005, 2:30 PM
Windy - There's no cathedral window really. The colors in the background are the colors of their elements. Kal (to your left) is Earth and Ely (to your right) is Air/wind. I never thought of a cathedral window....Maybe I'll make one.

krypto @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 12:05 AM
hey, the black ring is so nice!!! wow... i woulnd't have the patience to do sucha thing. o.o
