Drowkaki was finally upgraded to Poteto 5.1 then to Wax Poteto. A much needed upgrade after so many years without change and with all these bugs plaguing us. We had to trash our custom MODS but it seem that wax poteto include some of the stuff we had. Avatar(go in your profile) and picture uploading. It also come with some new features as well. The most important one is to be able to re-touch everything, including SHI-PAINTER pictures , non animated oekaki and uploaded stuff. I'm sorry we didn't do this upgrade sooner. Now the board is pretty much lifeless, but i hope now that approving new accountsl became optional, that some life will return around here on this fantasy-only oekaki board.

i like teh way it all curls round the younger loking one, as if the wind thats blowing wants to protect him. beautiful....

Well i havent seen the movie either but i llike this pic! is so soft and nice, I love how your lineart is blue/purpleish instead of the typical black =3

Karasu Art = Love. Absolute. I love it so much.. :D

kyasha @ Sunday, March 6th 2005, 6:25 PM
Holy crap, at first I thought this was a fanart of Gankutsuou...I got excited....but nope, the count wouldn't look that pretty (hahaha).
Neat way of using blue as the lineart! :D

Prismatic @ Monday, March 7th 2005, 8:44 PM
Very nice use of watercolors. The picture has such a flow to it. I like the blue line art, it makes it appear somehow wispy or something. Excellent job on the profiles! And your ears are really good! I don't know many that do them that well. I enjoy their expressions and the intensity about them, even in such a soft piece.~~

bakabaka @ Friday, March 11th 2005, 2:02 PM
I like this one more out of the two you've done. =3 The flow to it's better. ^_^ But that's just my opinion.

I absolutely love the girl's face in this. She looks so happy. I really like how you did her hair too. Looks exactly like that in the movie. ^^ D looks wonderful too, 'specially his hair and that hat of his.

You're so talented with that watercolor tool. *nods* And with your color choices. No color ever looks out of place in your pieces.

Beautiful piece.

celestial crou @ Sunday, March 6th 2005, 4:17 AM
ALRIGHTY. i think this maybe a bit confusing. The short version: Dark elves are supposed to hate humans but this one saved the girl. And then left quickly after.

NOW i did finnish this pic. The BG is green and all that. But its not showing up. If its not up by .....tomarrow ill redo it cause then ill know it didnt get sent.... stupid program...>,<

The blonde girl reminds me of something, but I can't think of who. >_O *hrms*

I like the dark skinned mysterious figure looks sexy. *rawr* ^_^ I've always loved solid black hair. *nods* And as has been mentioned, great profiles! =3 They're not easy.

KHatch @ Thursday, January 20th 2005, 11:32 AM

Ah, it got ugly in the compression. *sad* It did have much smoother shading on the faces and BG and stuff, but it was SO HUGE that Kern apparantly had to squish it a little more.
Oh well, me likes.
Yes, Darkrose, it's his familiar! =) Well, more like "pet" but yeah.
Argpoodle is rehabilitating, and it seems that 'Rena hs better things to do than babysitting an injured gnome.
Ah, but does Argpoodle feel more for the drow than he lets on?
Find out next week on Guiding Light!
No not really. But this IS what apears to be happening in the game...she's becoming more independent, and he's becoming more...sad...
Who knows.

awww.. god work butpoor him

darkrose @ Thursday, January 20th 2005, 8:57 PM
I know! I know! The owl is his familiar, right? Anyway, this is the most beautiful of your comics thus far. The background is just perfect, simply beautiful. I went back and read your description of what was going on, but even before that you could really tell. Wonderful job on expressing the story just through their expressions and poses. In that first pannel she's got her shoulders down and is sitting on her leg, which shows her boredom, yet her back is straight showing the formality of the 'job' (the I'm-here-beacuse-I-have-to-be look). She looks so ver longing in that second frame, you can tell exactly what she's thinking! Oh, so wonderfully told, so wonderfully shown. Another absolutely fantastic job!

Kage Kitsune @ Saturday, January 22nd 2005, 1:24 AM
awww! I feel so bad for Argpoodle!! I hope he does tell Rena how he feels, because if he doesn't....I'll smack him XD! I like Rena's purple dress, it's really pretty!

Crest @ Sunday, January 23rd 2005, 9:23 PM
Poor little guy. Where's his hat? That might make him feel a little better. Your comics are always amusing. :D This one is a little sad though. Both seem to have a lot on their mind that they're not wanting to talk about. Very nicely drawn out and colored.

Shakaku @ Monday, January 24th 2005, 9:11 PM
Even though compression might have killed some of the lovelyness of it, it still looks great. And the 3rd pannel is my favorite. The movement and the sceenery are just perfect. I feel so bad of Poodle!

Queen_Godzilla @ Friday, March 4th 2005, 8:34 PM
Lai'Rena and Argie. So cute.

This is well done, despite the compression (if you think THIS is bad, see my Castlevania picture.) It's really nice that you managed to squeeze in backgrounds and pay attention to the lighting.

And even without words, the story is well told.

I really like Argie in the last panel -- he's just got this cute pouty face and just looks handsome X3.

Malena @ Thursday, March 10th 2005, 8:54 PM

The girl in the front seems to either be completely oblivious to what's going on, or must be in league with that flying upside down spider thing!

Anyhow. Even though you slacked with the water in the background, it still looks great. =3 Nice quicky.
Love the girl in the background's facial expression. XD I'd be running if something like that was chasing me. D'no how long she's going to stay alive if she keeps running through that water like that. XD RUN!

Great anatomy. *nods* 'specially the girl in front's hand. <3 It's hard to draw hands holding tiny sticks like that. Very pretty eyes she has too. =3

ah its nice, Tho i dont quite understand them, specially the ring of blood around a misty moon, yet it doesnt mean the ideas arent neat =3
I specially like the drop and the wave thinguies in the water..
about the first panel, the sitting boy/girl, the only thing i suggest you is that if you make such pretty soft bg, try to make the character the same way, soft and such, cause it seems kinda out of place the way you inked and colored it.. i dunno.. well thats my opnion =p lalala

kyasha @ Sunday, March 6th 2005, 6:23 PM

Whee for using tools and learning how to touch up~ I like the tone thingys in the top right panel, it makes the buildings look as though they are all lit up. It's sorta nifty how the figure in the top left panel looks as though they've been embossed. And pretty job with the watercolors~

darkrose @ Wednesday, March 2nd 2005, 1:29 PM
Interesting... I like hoe you did the shading on her nose and the tear in her eye. I think the softer color palate is also a nice touch, not quite as dark which could also be symbolic. The monster portion looks like it could blend better with her skin, but this is a work in progress and I'll hold off on actual comments until you say you're ready. <{^.^}>

mazilwolf @ Friday, March 4th 2005, 4:01 PM
it very unusual, mmm... the shading is good, but the background is a bit....
i dont know the word for it, but you should do somthing to it.... yep yep.
is the left eye reptillian? very neat scar too. yep yep and i want to see it done =3 looks great so far!!!

kyasha @ Sunday, March 6th 2005, 6:13 PM
Just as a suggestion, when you draw the nose you don't draw both sides of the nose. Instead you do one line for the bridge of the nose, it doesn't seem to flatten out (a tip from my design drawing teacher :P)

nice solids :D

Prismatic @ Monday, March 7th 2005, 8:38 PM

I really like the fading colors of blue in the background of this picture. Not to mention I usually like a sort of aquamarine tone. It's super great contrast for the red shirt they're wearing~
The highlights on the skin are great. She has a lot of depth there, and it seems you succesfully carried the light source through out the picture.~

Harlequin @ Monday, February 28th 2005, 2:52 AM
Not bad for a first oekaki using a tablet. A few little lineart things keep jumping out at me, but I'll attribute the varying thickness to tablet crankiness. I really like the color scheme, the teal background with her bright orange head tie thingy, as well as those orange eyes and that super red shirt. Very nice. The shading for the most part seems a bit segmented, but it looks more like soft cel-style shading than anything really. The hair turned out very nice, and using blue to shade light hair always looks nice. Very interesting piece, now I wonder what that first one looked like. lol

At the moment i am just tweeking the FG and BG. Wait till its done before you say i broke a rule. -,o K? I have plans you see.....devious plans that only i may know.

Aw, cute kitty! He sure looks proud of his snowman. X3333

Little Elf @ Saturday, February 26th 2005, 5:58 PM
Yay you're finsihed! The kitty is cuuuute! ^_^ The little horn is a nice touch. Cat's make such cute "snowmen" lol. The snow looks all nice and fluffy, and the cat's stripes are very well done. I think the BG could use a little more detail to match with the cat, but that's okay. Nice.

darkrose @ Sunday, February 27th 2005, 5:55 PM
Your cat made a snowman...? Thats cute... And I like how fuzzy you made it look. You also made it look so proud, very pleased with itself and eager for you to be pleased with it too. Are those trees in the background, or columns? They're spaced just right to look like columns. Or maybe I've got the perspective off and they're the back of the porch? I'm not sure what could be done to clarify those things, maybe more detail (bark on trees, fluting on columns, grain on wood porch). That'll also set a perspective on the size of the unikitty. Still, I really like this piece, is unbearably cute <{^ ^}>

Ikena @ Sunday, February 27th 2005, 6:12 PM
Ah how cute! I like the little detail of the horn! =3
his eyes are pretty too!

Hehe.. cute concept. I love things with horns. Nice job with the pose, kitty poses are hard for me to do. I have to agree with what others have said about how nice it is you made it look all soft and fluffy. And it's smiling! I love it when my kitty smiles. The soft pretty colors in the background are nice.~

Amary-chan @ Friday, February 25th 2005, 9:05 AM
the body [shoulders] seem abit out of proportion with the head, and the forehead is abit too small - my best advice on faces comes directly from my portrait drawing teacher - the eyes are in the middle of the head, from the top of the skull [at highest point] to the bottom of the chin. your lines are very crisp and clean, and your skin tone is well done!

KHatch @ Friday, February 25th 2005, 1:08 PM
I do have a habit of making the bottom half of the face too long, but I think this piece's problems stem from my lack of tablety goodness...God, I hate this retarded picture XD
Thanks for the lines comment, I'm liking how the bezie tool made them so smooth. Might have to incorporate that into a real drawing later =)

catboi incubus mishi @ Saturday, February 26th 2005, 3:22 PM

Ooh! Ooh! Is it WoW? What server? Heh, not much likelihood of my being on the same one, but worth the question. I like him, he's cute. The style is not much like your regular one, and the profile is almost Disney's Hercules-esque. Still, the consistant texture and the color use bring it together nicely, as all your pictures are wont to do.

I have to agree with everyone else in saying this is too cute. I think I like him better this way.. all chibified.
I have to agree that chibi hands are difficult to do, but the shading you gave to his gloves really does give his fingers definition.
His eyes are super pretty and I like the feathery background about him.

The way you shaded it with pixels and solids gives it a sort of whimsical feel. Very good for spring time. And, everything seems to have a movement to it. Especially the trees.

Karasu @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 1:38 AM
I cant be too sure whats going on here, but I can critique the technique you used in the picture! I think the bushes were done FANTASTIC! first off. And secondly, I think that you did a really good job on the yellow parts on the boy there....(the clothes), but I think that they could use a lttle more shadow here and htere (once again saying the bushes and trees are fantastic) but i do adore the little 4 leaf clover action. : )

I can see a definite DBZ influence here. I don't know why. ANYWAY, I like their goofy, dazed expressions. Haha, I guess that's what love does, eh?

Nice use of brush strokes and halftones. They work together quite nicely. Gives it more of a traditional media feel too.

Happy V-Day, everyone! Here's to every person who's going to spend the day of lovey-dovey cuddling sickness locked in their rooms with computers, video games, and single serving pizzas. Cheers!

This is Melia, she's a Djernak which is a creature of my own devising. Basically they're low elves as upposed to high elves, they are shorter and stockier than high elves, with longer ears (ususally with fur although in some circles it is expected for that to be removed) and long tails tipped with fur like a lion's. The fuzzy thing beside her is Simalea, her familiar. All Djernak are born with a nickling (that creature's kind) familiar that they live with until death. They resemble a fox, but not as long or as lanky, they have longer fur, larger eyes, a shorter snout, smaller paws, and two antannae that glow according to mood and lighting. Also they have a pair of small and cute (but funcional) pink wings on their backs.

Melia was taken from her home as a smaller child and brought as a slave to one of the elfin cities, where a rich and somewhat perverted old elf bought her and took her to his private castle to be raised in his harem. She is the favorite, and all her needs are taken care of and so she has no reason to run away. She still misses her brother on occasion, though, as in his picture.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Tigerhawk @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 4:15 AM

Oh so pretty! And what a neat idea for a sub-race. It seems you put a lot of time into developing it.
The anatomy on this is very well done. Am particularly fond of her hand and the proportions of her face. All the details in her jewelery and clothing is wonderful! It's such a cute outfit, and as has been stated before I like how you used watercolor for the sheerness of her clothing.
Her lil friend thingy is so cute. It's eye is wonderful~ I wish I could see its wings. I love pink wings. -drool- It looks like it's trying to comfort her as she's thinking of her brother.
The softness of the background is really pretty. I like the soft light of the moon, and the buildings in the far off distance~

Well, as long as she's happy with her job I'm good!

First of all -- that costume really caught my eye. Eeeeeexcellent. I like the dangly beads and the heart design around the rim of the lingerie. A very detailed costume, for a very rich girl X3.

And good job with the implied city in the background. Just enough detail to specify what it is, but not enough to make it stand out overly much.

Nice lighting too. I don't know if it's the most effective as it is or not. Ah, well.

Her familiar is pretty unremarkable, though. Looks like a brown cat. Woo.

His story finally has a name. Yay!

catboi incubus mishi @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 2:11 AM
Beautiful, Windy. Your Dhell works always stand out so much, and this one is no exception. I love his pose, it's so sad, he looks like he's trying in a futile manner to crawl away from danger. I love the glow of white then blue around him, it's lovely. His blue blood always intrigued me, and you illustrate it so well. I think, if he were to have red blood, it wouldn't look as beautifully tragic. I love his wings, they're so beautiful and blood-splattered. His antennae are fuzzy and soft looking, they're actually kind of cute. x3; I like how we can't see his face, it really brings out a larger sense of pity for him. Poor pretty Dhell. *hugs him*

i don't want to sound crule or anything or sound like I'm doing this cause I don't like you (don't get any thoughts in your head cause I don't) but you're always asking to be a better artist. iIn my point of view the neck seems a little to long, and the face. I'm not to sure why it's bugging me but I think its to oval. Can't really say. It could be the hair that makes it seem that way though. I can't really say what you were intending to do so I won't say it's wrong or anything. Because I believe you can do no wrong in art. Many artists would disagree with me but, eh, I don't care what they think.
Over all I believe it is a really good picture.

Jennifer, The Blue Narian @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 4:05 AM
Very nice lady. I think I like this design best for his wings. Not sure about the entenas, thier more moth like then butterfly and yet that sort of suits him. What I like best is the colors and the sense of light like his wings are almost glowing dispite or threw the blood.

Only thing that bothered me was his head shape till my eyes focused properly and I realized that was his ear. Then it looked fine. Sorry, I see things oddly sometimes.

windblade @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 1:51 PM
heh, I see some people have mistaken his ear for his face... I see what you mean, Jenn. It's a bit difficult to draw his weird ears.

Jennifer, The Blue Narian @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 7:18 PM
It would be a real easy fix windy. That strand of hair to the left of the ear? I asume it's supose to be infront. So simply curve it some to look more like it's behind the ear like the other strands in front are.

the wings are wonderfully rendered, i like the coloring. the pose is nice though the head looks abit odd, maybe too long of a neck [men have shorter necks then women]

Queen_Godzilla @ Saturday, March 5th 2005, 1:38 AM
Man, I haven't commented on this yet? I really DO need to catch up!

I'd have to agree with Jenny TBN on the antennae -- they are more moth than butterfly and kind of distracting on Dhell there. I'd like it better with little or no antennae. But that's me.

I'll agree with that. It's a VERY nifty concept... would like to know more please! You did a really good job on the hands this time, although it sort of seems to come from nowhere (no arms). Maybe that's part of the concept, like black and white guy is a telepath or something... that could be cool... Anyways, I do really like the concept and I wanna know more about what's going on here. The character in the background is not as well developed as the one in the crystal.
However, the one in the crystal has really nice lineart and a start at some good shading. You should redo this one someday and spend more time on it so that you do like it. It's a neat idea and it seems like you kinda gave up on it. =(

Ditto to what Windy said: I'd like to take this entire concept/idea and do it my way. :D Because it is fascinating and inspiring. I might just do it without you, though. Nyeh.

Aww...it's like a pin-up of Verre. XD!!!!! Adulted for...well...even though nothing is showing, blatant nudity. I realize the hands look more than a touch odd, hopefully I can fix those before I start actual lineart. lol

I realize my last oekaki, "Spiders" is still sans background, so technically not done, but I'm really drawing a blank on that one. I'll hopefully get it officially finished soon...along with playing a rousing round of "comment catch-up". I like games. XD!!

Would you believe I was working on a sketch last night that had the same sort of pose (except... more demure and less sexy)? And that it turned out so much worse than this? XD Harle, it's been said already, but MY those hands are amazing. o.o And just the anatomy... agh!

As a note, this is Kiyana, back from the dead :3

I will comment more fully once you have finished this Harlequin... and I'll probably pester you to finish when I catch you staring blankly at the computer screen?

Jennifer, The Blue Narian @ Saturday, February 12th 2005, 6:27 PM
Wonderful pose. The perspective is good and the hands amazeing. Plus the colors compliment each other nicely between the blue hair and brown skin. Nicely done so far.

Woah Harle! its amazing!
I love her pose and expression! her hands are supah cool! and the colorings is just.. wow!
I looove the movement of the hair and the shading of the skin!
her eyes are so pretty!

Tigerhawk @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 4:11 AM
I really like the detail in the hair. I still can't do that. nice use of lighting and shading.

darkrose @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 11:25 PM
Right. Girl. I knew that. This came out fantastic, the pose is excellent and the shading/lineart is so smooth.. the strands of hair are captivating, and the epression is quite amusing. It's your hands that really stand out to me, though... they're just amazing. The hands and the anatomy of her back, both. My only comment would be something about the back arm, how it folds. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it seems somehow not right... dang, wish I could be more helpful, say something other than 'wow' but I guess it just wasn't meant to be <{^.^}>

Starisan @ Tuesday, February 15th 2005, 2:13 PM
OOO, this i seriouly awesome and creepy. I really like the position, you did a very good job with perspective on the limbs. I think the tufts t the end of the ears are a nice touch because they keep the color scheme going and the eyes moving.

Prismatic @ Sunday, February 20th 2005, 1:35 AM
Yaay you added a background! Really nice one even. The planks fit so well together~
Absolutly wonderful job on the shading. You always do a great job on that, but this one is particualry well done... as well as terrific line work. Her hair is magnificant. I really love the pose as well! Her anatomy is great~

Queen_Godzilla @ Saturday, March 5th 2005, 1:10 AM
I tried to check, but I couldn't find anything, so... I'll just go with what I can assume here. I am currently assuming that Verre is a girl. (I know that Sakmet is. Holy jibblies, maybe Verre IS a guy? I dunno!)

Well, if Verre was/is a girl you SHOULD be able to see part of her breast between her chin and her shoulder there. It's because gravity and her posture would cause breasts to fall forward. Now, I know you don't want to make it outright porn, but... eh.

And if it's not a girl, then... just keep that tidbit for future reference XD

Other than that... DAMN. XD You're putting a lot of work into the hair and the floor. Good job! I really, really love the hair -- it's my favorite color and it's really shiny too.

I always liked how you did eyes.

Very predatory pose. X3

Hes one sexy drow yes?

Wa ha! He's done! I finnished quickly this time so YEA!

This is my character Dante. Right now he's a pirate. He wears a white bandana and white pirate pants. Perhaps in the next pic you shall see the whole costume. He has only one crew member. And a poorly made boat. i dont know who that other crew member will be. Perhaps a new character ? or an old.

Prismatic @ Friday, February 4th 2005, 9:30 AM
Wow, he is really pretty.
I love the subtle change of tone in his skin. And the little shiney on his lip~ His eyes in particular are really well done. The dark lines about them really make them stand out.
The colors in the sky are beautiful. It really seems to be a bright afternoon or some such. Makes joining him even more appealing~

catboi incubus mishi @ Friday, February 4th 2005, 2:28 PM
I really really like his hair, it's so pretty and the blue is just lovely. <3 I think you could have shaded the white with some light grey, but that's just me. Oh wait, no, it's a bandana, right? Then you should have done some distinction between the two - perhaps make the bandana a light grey, because afterall, white doesn't stay pure on the sea for too long. x3; I think you could have blended the colors in his skin a little more, they look a bit blotchy right now. My absolute favorite part of this are his eyes, they're so piercing and a pretty color of olive. <3

olsie @ Friday, February 4th 2005, 10:13 PM
Cute; The only thing that i would personally change is his lips...lol they look too girly xD
I seriously like how you complete eyes and duo colored hair; blends really nicely!

Kari Maxwell @ Saturday, February 5th 2005, 12:24 AM
He's cute. I like how you did his hair. I'm glad you added more detail to the white part of his hair, in the back. I think that's a bandana, but hell if I know, really. I just know I like the blue in his hair. It's cute. Nice shading on his flesh as well.

Karasu @ Tuesday, February 8th 2005, 12:45 AM
I feel that if I stare into his eyes it will start to vortex on me...*phew* The only thing that really sort of bugs me here is that the lighting or the contrast seems kinda weird. I can't really put my finger on it well enough to describe to you...foo. otherwise, interesting choice for hair! and i love how you used the tones : )

The softness and richness of color in this is amazing. You did such a great job carrying the light source from the flame through out the entire picture.~~ And the shadowing is excellent as well. Excellent job~

Your value range is excellent -- everything from black to white. Good, good. And that really works well with this, considering the multiple objects, the fire and the ... well, everything! XD

I like how it's all very smooth. And colorful too. Good lighting on ... wassiname's shirt. (Rocky? Terry? Gah! XD)

Jennifer @ Sunday, January 30th 2005, 11:58 AM
This picture is so sweet and touching. I really like this, it's romantic. Your characters are very good-looking and have a sense of realism. The hero has such a tender expression. It's as if he's thinking that everything will be alright as long as she is with him. Your heroine has a more serious expression, like she is trying to figure out what happened and what they will do next. After seeing this picture, I would like to see more of their story. Great work.

catboi incubus mishi @ Sunday, January 30th 2005, 4:25 PM
What a sweet couple. (: I love their expressions, the woman with a sad, pondering one.. I almost feel as though they're sitting before a fire, just the way that they're snuggling. I love the man's look, gazing at her with love, probably, and wonder at what will happen to them. The sexy, open shirt can't help but make me think of romance novels. XD;; Wonderful image! :D

you have wonderful realism here, the lighting is fantastic as a soft glow. I love her face!

Queen_Godzilla @ Saturday, March 5th 2005, 12:19 AM
A lot better, yes. Definitely. It has a good composition, good coloration, proportions, etc.

If I tilt my head the direction each of their heads is facing, I can see little facial details that have gone out of line. Mostly it's just one eye on each of them. No big deal. And the rest of their anatomies are perfect as far as I cna see.

Other than that -- I don't see much shadows in here. I know one source is blue light and it's from behind them, and I know one source is yellow/bone nad coming from the right, but... I think sometimes you're using blue shadows and that throws me off as to whether it's a highlight or shadow. Tisk, tisk.

I really like the opposing color pallet. The cool colors look great against the fire. I love her eyes too because the purple incorporates both the red back and the blue front. Your shading is sublte and very well done. Talented Crou! I really like her lips too.

catboi incubus mishi @ Friday, January 28th 2005, 3:36 PM
Wow, the colors are rather bright. *__*; I just love her eyes and skintone, but her hair seems very sloppy, I don't much like the jumble of black on the right. Also, did you forget to shade her collar? It's so cute, by the way, with its little acorn. ^^

darkrose @ Friday, January 28th 2005, 8:21 PM
wow, bright. Interesting colors, I don't know if I would have ever thought to pair green skin with purple eyes with blue hair and neon lips... especially with that bright background it's so very cool and colorful. Wonderful job.

Crest @ Friday, January 28th 2005, 10:09 PM
Those are some bright colors. XD Love the skin tone and the way you colored the hair. The hair to me really stands out. And I adore those lips...yummy looking lips. I hope it's girl or else I may feel sick in the morning for saying that. XD Love the nose. :D

She's very pretty. I love her big, expressive eyes and that slightly shocked expression. It's like she was caught off-guard. I like what you did with her hair. The scribbly black lines give her hair a messy, damp look.

Ichumi @ Monday, January 31st 2005, 4:28 AM

Her expression is perfect, I especially love her deep eyes. The green lips are a nice touch.

Kwetha @ Wednesday, February 2nd 2005, 9:15 PM
Ooh! Shiney picture! I *love* the eyes. I want to steal them, and then I'd claim that I'd drawn them, and be egotistical. This is a really nice piece, in other words. Uhm, but there's a kinda lack of shading in her collar - was that intentional or did you forget? Also, there's some colour bleeding...it'd be nice if it was cleaned up a bit, because this is a really nice picture and it just detracts a bit. But the eyes, the eyes!

Queen_Godzilla @ Friday, March 4th 2005, 11:49 PM
Acorn, eh? I like her name.

The first thing I noticed, and the thing that made me want to comment, was her coloration. We don't get a lot of green-skinned, blue-haired girls around here. This is what really set her off from the rest of the pictures.

The second thing that made me want to comment was her face. Her wide, googly eyes and her pouty lips -- oh yes. Very good. There aren't any eyebrows that I can see, but I don't care. XD Her expression is one that kind of looks vacantly shocked. Like she's seeing something that looks weird and she doesn't know what it is.

The only thing I'd watch out is how ears connect to the head. The bottom of the ear is level with the bottom of the nose, and the top of the ear is level with the eyebrow. It doesn't really work on anime that well (I can attest to that) but... yeah. XD; Her ear is just kind of strangely connect to her head, like it's sticking out of her cheek -- all you'd need to do is add a line from her jaw to her ear ridge there. Or something like it. I dunno XD;

darkrose @ Wednesday, January 26th 2005, 7:30 AM

catboi incubus mishi @ Saturday, January 29th 2005, 12:07 AM

christabel @ Sunday, January 30th 2005, 9:53 PM
Desert witch? Really cool idea! ^v^

Ichumi @ Monday, January 31st 2005, 4:35 AM
Such clean lines, and the background looks great. ^^ Love her jewellery.

Queen_Godzilla @ Friday, March 4th 2005, 10:56 PM
My opinion? WAY TOO MUCH LIKE JASMINE! Shake it up a little -- give her a sari (it's a hindu garment) or, like, tulle sleeves or some giant earring hoops, or some head jewels, make her hair into pigtails or an afro, or just make it short hair. SOMETHING to make it more different from Jasmine. I mean, honestly. I know you're trying to go for middle eastern, but there are SO MANY more references than just Jasmine.

Other than that...

Proportions are off-kilter. Her ribcage needs to be wider, as wide as her hips. And her arms/shoulders are also disproportionate and skewed. From the neck to the shoulder there's a slanting muscle, and it kinda makes the neck/head/collarbone area look like the shape of a coat hanger. Keep that in mind. As for her arms, slightly lumpish. Start wide at the top of each joint and slim down to the next; also make sure that the forearm and arm are the same length.

As for the design part of the piece -- waaaaay too much wasted space. You could have done a lot more with the background. Seriously.

And lastly, the highlights and shadows. You merely put shadow on one side and highlight on the other. What that did was made her look embossed rather than three dimensional. Bas relief versus sculpture. You need to think of where the light hits and adjust the light/shadow accordingly. It's hard at first, but you'll get it soon enough.

Pick a spot the light is coming from and post an arrow showing its direction. Then, using that arrow as a guide, decide where the light would hit it. Where the light WOULDN'T hit would be where you put the shadows. Depending on how much light is reaching one place, you adjust the darkness and lightness of the shadow or highlight accordingly. Voila.
