Drowkaki was finally upgraded to Poteto 5.1 then to Wax Poteto. A much needed upgrade after so many years without change and with all these bugs plaguing us. We had to trash our custom MODS but it seem that wax poteto include some of the stuff we had. Avatar(go in your profile) and picture uploading. It also come with some new features as well. The most important one is to be able to re-touch everything, including SHI-PAINTER pictures , non animated oekaki and uploaded stuff. I'm sorry we didn't do this upgrade sooner. Now the board is pretty much lifeless, but i hope now that approving new accountsl became optional, that some life will return around here on this fantasy-only oekaki board.

Wow, my first picture here so far. This is just the begining and stuff. But anyhow, this is a character of a friend of mine's. Phantasy. This is me attempting to show his "sweeter side." If there is one. I just need to color it. Hope you like it.

Comments and critiques and like...suggestions, they are always welcome.

kyokurrychan @ Friday, December 31st 2004, 9:17 PM
so far i like it ^^ i cant wait to see it colored <3

oni shi @ Friday, December 31st 2004, 10:17 PM
O.o he's pretty i cant wait to see this done... 1 thing tho, the arm is a bit miffed looking at the elbow, but all else looks awsome!! *waits for color*

Olsie @ Friday, December 31st 2004, 10:31 PM
There should be a lot of different kinds of flowers in the background... xD just a suggestion.
His visable arm looks alittle bit lumpy; you may want to flatten it alittle once you get back to this :)
I love your characters face; it shows great atyle :)

Ghislain WildCat @ Saturday, January 1st 2005, 7:54 AM
I like it pretty much so far. Can't wait to see it colored! ^w^

Oh! and I like the wing design! pretty original, I think!

Darkrose @ Saturday, January 1st 2005, 9:27 AM
mmm... scribbles. I like it so far, although the arm closest to us looks a little something, not sure. Uneven, maybe, you could try to make the forarm and the upper arm more straight and even them out a little. Other than that, the hands, wings, and eyes look really good. Welcome, keep going!

Kamourian King @ Saturday, January 1st 2005, 4:48 PM
that is really good ^^ i love the char disine... cant wait to see this done

BreeWinde @ Sunday, January 2nd 2005, 3:32 AM
Thankyou for the nice comments. I am okay with lineart, and horrible at coloring. I am not used to coloring on the computer, so its something i need to get used to, but I wasn't like, horrified by the product, though I wish I was better at coloring. Alas, some things take time.

My b-day is tomorrow (Jan. 2nd) But I will try and draw another picture for tomorrow, and comment some more. <333

AnimeCanuck @ Sunday, January 2nd 2005, 5:22 PM
Great pose. I like how it's all solids and you avoided lines. The folds in the shirt look the best.

Lady_Sea @ Sunday, January 2nd 2005, 9:59 PM
I really like the lack of line art in this picture. I like how it's just colored and very neat without any lines. Th eonly thing that bothers me is the bendy-ness of the arm facing us. It bends upwards strangely. Another thing is is that a background could have been put in to compliment the pretty character. Like a garden or forest. But what am I complaining about, I find bg's the hardest part to draw in a picture XD. Lovely work!

Darkrose @ Sunday, January 2nd 2005, 10:27 PM
Ooh, me likies. I especially like the shading on his pants and hair... and good job with fixing the arm. I like it a lot now. The whole thing is very cute and colorful, and the multiple varied shades used to add depth are really quite appealing. Good job adding texture with that, as well, with the large smooth wings (do they actually attatch to the body, or do they float behind? Either way would be a cool story...) to the wrinkled brown shirt. He looks very casual. Great job!

Kamourian King @ Monday, January 3rd 2005, 11:54 AM
that style is so kool you colored in ^^ i like seeing other do the no line art style once in a wile ^^

this looks wonderful done^^ good job

Starisan @ Monday, January 3rd 2005, 11:39 PM
This one has a very distinctive style to it. It seems like a thoughtful piece. I like the style of the wings because they seem to have a very elegant shape. My only question is about how they are attached. You use very vibrant colors that are effective, a consistant color pallete. cool!

Carbuncle @ Tuesday, January 4th 2005, 12:47 AM
I like this pic the shading is awesome and I love the folds of the shirt and the purple hair his hand bothers me though it looks a little bent in a wrong way and the thumb is soo little compared to the rest of the fingers the background is just orange but there is nothing wrong with that (to me anyways) but I have often had comments to make better backgrounds but I really like the no background thing *^_^*

celestial crou @ Wednesday, January 5th 2005, 5:18 AM
wow. All solids. The shirt hes wearing is very well made. The shading and highlights really show the light source. I think i like the wings best. NEATO!

Harlequin @ Thursday, January 6th 2005, 5:50 AM
Oooh...lineless. I love lineless...though I've never done it. lol Solid coloring and lineless art just seem to go hand in hand. Maybe that's why I've never tried a lineless piece...I suck at solid shading. lol The sherbet looking background color just...well it makes me smile. lol For some reason this just makes me think of an old game character in close up. It's sorta grainy, not terribly detailed, solidly shaded...but still looks good. Interesting...very interesting.

Basil @ Thursday, January 6th 2005, 11:39 PM
Anthrooooo! *Adores* I love how the picture is basically without black lines. The solid shading technique is very unique- J'adore! Bravo!

Pitdragon @ Thursday, December 30th 2004, 9:07 PM
Like where this is going. I am determined to have a more "realistic" art style, and this looks similar to some of my stepping-stone pics for that, where I too have used some FF CG to help. (yah, I know my Oekaki work looks like I'm in 6th grade all over again ^_^; ). It looks like you're gonna have some nifty cloud/fog/steam to the left there. I wanna see how that turns out too!

BreeWinde @ Friday, December 31st 2004, 7:41 PM
His eyes look wonderful, hun. I would suggest blurring the nose a little, or something though, because you have so many smooth lines, and then the nose is so sharp, it throws a lot of the picture off. Other then that, great job. <3

Darkrose @ Sunday, January 2nd 2005, 10:29 PM
Woah! It completely changed! That's kind of a trip... still love the shading on the nose, though. His eyes could be a bit darker (the whites are never really white, you know) if you're going for a purely realistic look, but I really like this. Kinda thew me that the whole thing up and changed, though... heheh.

Kamourian King @ Monday, January 3rd 2005, 12:04 PM

Wow! I watched the animation of this, and found it fascinating how you switched the picture! Kudos!~ The little crescent on his forehead could be a tad bit bigger though,a nd I love his eyes, although I agree that if you are going for a realism effect that you should darken the whites of the eyes a bit. Also, his ear looks like it could take a tad bit more shading. I love his cheek markings, and the pouty looking bottom lip!

celestial crou @ Tuesday, January 4th 2005, 7:22 AM
Starisan- *HUGS* HELLO!!!!! i was getting worried that i would never hear from you again. YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! your here now!

Yes comment away. I hate how this turned out. but i would love to hear improvement suggestions. Its not my "drawing style". (XD i have a drawing style now! Recently devoloped you see) But you cant say you suck at something if you only did it a few times. wait until you did something 100 times before you say you suck at it. then practive until 1000. If no improvement. then you really do suck at it and you should probibly quit wasting your time....LOL

Starisan @ Tuesday, January 4th 2005, 5:05 PM
yipee! well I watched the animation and I did like the start that you had on the original (sorry I know you'v heard that a few times), but I like this one too. The expression is great, pouty lip and all. He looks annoyed as he usually would be but it also seems like he's trying to be serious when he really wants to laugh. I magine him LOLing....You really captured his likeness well. The pelt is especially good and I see some really good highlights (smiles). The eyes are very effective too (they look round) but I would have to agree that the whites might be a little darker. I can't believe you only been using the mouse for a little while, your soo good. Good job!

Harlequin @ Thursday, January 6th 2005, 5:35 AM
lol Well Crou, had this been with actual tangible paint...I'm sure you would have been MUCH happier with it. I won't bother critiquing this...since...lol You already know exactly what I'd point out and all that, and I'm sure it's the same stuff that you're not happy with. But...I will say this, you're brave to attempt even moderate realism with an oekaki applet...lol Then again...I'm am "realistically challenged" when it comes to people. lol

Arsnic and Aubrey are the D&D characters for me and my adoptive (not really he's just a friend of mine we adopted each other) brother! ^_^ Arsnic is Aubrey's blood slave and the conversation goes as thus

Arsnic: Beeerrrr....*drool*
Aubrey: We don't have enough money for beer...(if we did we'd BOTH be drunk by now) gods I can't wait till your older...

and that's the conversation! I don't really want to give back story on the two on them right now becuase I'm still trying to sort it out, and tweak and such...Enjoy!!

Manical grin much? Not that it's a bad thing, of course. That Dane looks just wonderful, the details on the muzzle is really awesome. It's so cute, too, especially it's expression---it looks like something off-image has captured it's attention! The girl (Harlequin, I assume?) has a neat hat, and I like the way her hair falls. That background is rather intriguing, I want to see how it's coloured and shaded. :D

The puppy is very cute and well drawn, I wish I could draw animals as well as you. Your eyes are always very dramatic. I like that in the animation. I think the head space in the hat is just a little bit off but otherwise I'm glad it's there (my fav hat to see you in):) A gorgeous suset in the background too. Quite lovely.

I wanted a challenge. My last picture, people said "you could have used a more dynamic pose" ... Well, I know I'm not the best at poses - in fact I'm pretty terrible. So I sat on that idea for a bit. Kern talked to me on ICQ. That's a rareity. He said, for a dynamic pose I should try something from a different angle, from above or underneath - so I thought I'd try underneath. I asked of what, he said of someone looking up. So... This elf guy isn't exactly looking up, more like leaning over and looking straight forward, but this was the pose I had in mind. It's animated, so you can se how I did this. It's not bad, but it's not the best either.

Comments and critiques please. Thanks!

AnimeCanuck @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 4:18 AM
Hmm... Now that I think about it... I'm surprised this only took me 45 minutes. It felt a lot longer to me. Wow. Sarah (someone I know in person) is right! I do draw fast. *blink blink* Does anyone have any opinions as to whether drawing faster or slower is better and why? (just out of curiousity)

Skittles-chan @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 4:29 AM
This is pretty good for such an extreme perspective. The shoulders are a little off, however, too low I think, and the face could use just a bit more work. The hair looks pretty good, too, so does the chest and stomach.
As for spending time on drawing, it varies from person to person. I know someone who can draw a picture just as well in an hour where the same exact picture might take someone else five or six hours. If you know that something looks very wrong, then keep working on it, or if you know how to apply more detail, then do it. The amount of time spent on a picture isn't a very good way to measure its quality.

Rigga Mortis @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 5:16 AM
Everything I could say has been said, I think. You did a good try and poses, though. I'm personally too gutless to branch out yet. The shoes are neat, I like the blues you used for them. :D

Totenmaske @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 6:14 AM
Well personally, drawing slower allows me to actually keep track of what is important in the image, what I want to get across in details as well as overall feeling in the final result. If you draw too fast, you tend to leave out all the details you wanted to get across - there are those that are fast artist of course, who get the point out rather quickly in their images - but I'm sure they will be the first to say, to bring quality to a piece, you must take your time and work on an image until you are completely positive that you have finished what you personally are capable of doing.

In this image, it seems you have been rather daring in positioning, though in the end one can say you may be practically mooning your audience. Though I could always suggest we are breaking the fourth wall with this angle, simply because the way you shaded the character in colouring around the legs gives the impression of the clothing being pressed against a surface? Overall I think you took a chance overall in this image. I think you could have worked a little bit, personally, on the line art ? simply to give a better feeling of the jeans, the black threadwork in the ?crack? just makes the image seem dirtier than needs be really ? a different shade of blue could have probably helped create a natural flow really in that sense. Overall though I think this was an interesting take on what Kern suggested to you. Personally I pictured him suggesting something like a lower perspective looking up onto the character. But overall interesting image in the end.

The colouring is nice, though it is not as defined as it could be, simply because there are so much white in the background, and the shading is more stark than it should be. But really that is simply my personal opinion. Very interesting though, the shoes could be a little more detailed but generally I think you have the idea of the body done rather well? though there needs to be some more work in the sense of natural folds created by the ?crotch? area. The fingers are correctly placed btw, and I do have issues with the sense of flatness to the partial face we see, but overall it looks interesting in the end. But to be truthful the torso of the body would need to be a little more defined in various areas. Really the issues I think I have most with this image, which would sum up what you think, are a lot of negatives I?m saying about the image so far, is simply the flatness. That?s all the overall sense of flatness. Keep up the experimenting though!

Darkrose @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 6:26 AM
Heheh, well that's one way to create a dynamic pose... Again, all critique has already been covered, so I'll just pass on my immense amusement and give my congrats on attempting (and to a great extent succeeding on) an extremely difficult pose.

Ghislain WildCat @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 7:53 AM
Heeey! Long time no see! I haven't got news from you even since that flash animation where you voice act as Senya with that toaster robot! XD

As for the pic, you do have a lot of courage to attempt drawing at this angle! And the lighting's pretty nice too!... but maybe next time you could try to make a background... ^w^; The pic seems a bit empty without it.

KHatch @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 8:18 PM
I think this is cool. I would have never thought of something like this. The only thing that bugs me is the face, for the same reasons that people have already addressed. It looks flattish and the shoulders area is kinda off. But the legs and arms/fingers are good. I like the "pressed against glass" colouring job. This is really neat. =D

Totenmaske, thank you especially for giving some insight on time spent vs. quality of product. I think you have the right idea. The more heart and effort you put into it, the more it shows, and the more time you spend on a pic, the more likely you haven't forgotten a detail. *nods* Quite wise, indeed.

hi, this is a picture made by Dragon NaturallySpeaking software with me commanding the pointer how to draw and what to drag around. I'm still trying to perfect drawing with my voice. -- -- because I've got fibromyalgia in my arms. So, this is unfinished; a lot of the tools do not work, so I'm stuck with only a few. So my voice can drag the pointer around drawing. Really weird! It takes hours to do. I still have to finish it sorry, period or a mess!

this is unfinished again, because it keeps vanishing all the time, the program doesn't want to keep it. I'm doing it by Dragon NaturallySpeaking voice type software, so maybe it just doesn't want to use it. I'm drawing this was my voice I don't know if I'm going to be able to finish it all try.

So its been years since I have been here. Needed a break from the hectic pace of life as of late. I work, I'm about to graduate, about to get married, about to move... A lot going on. I loved playing around in shi painter..... Its been forever since I have used my wacom! I gave my self a challenge not to use anything but the colors from the pallet shown. I cheated a little with the darkest color.... but over all I think it turned out okay. It was def. a change going from apinting 4 ft paintings back to such a small controlled canvas! I miss this board, and the people on it.... hopefully it becomes more active?

Well, HELLO!!! It's been, what? Three years? I'm shocked that this place is still alive and kicking (relatively speaking) since it was in serious need of a defibrillator when I left for Italy. Heck...I'm surprised I remembered my username and password! XD
This lovely lady is the former wife of a dedicated police detective who learned a little too much about a certain cybernetics organization...and after two deaths, this is how she looks! I think she wins the prestigious "Most Abused Character" award for this particular story.
What'cha think?
