Drowkaki was finally upgraded to Poteto 5.1 then to Wax Poteto. A much needed upgrade after so many years without change and with all these bugs plaguing us. We had to trash our custom MODS but it seem that wax poteto include some of the stuff we had. Avatar(go in your profile) and picture uploading. It also come with some new features as well. The most important one is to be able to re-touch everything, including SHI-PAINTER pictures , non animated oekaki and uploaded stuff. I'm sorry we didn't do this upgrade sooner. Now the board is pretty much lifeless, but i hope now that approving new accountsl became optional, that some life will return around here on this fantasy-only oekaki board.

You know, sometimes it seems like you start your pieces a different way every time... it's kinda cool, keeps us on our toes. This is going to be another fantastic thing... you're so excellent with colors and shading and depth. I can't wait to see it finished!

Kari Maxwell @ Wednesday, February 2nd 2005, 1:10 AM
I like the no outlines to this. It's really neat. lol. It's pretty. I like the hair. Yay!

Ichumi @ Wednesday, February 2nd 2005, 3:47 AM
The tones on the face and clothing are beautifully rendered, I can't wait to see this finished! ^^ The blue shading is a great touch, too.

Totenmaske @ Wednesday, February 2nd 2005, 4:48 AM
I personally think you're art olsie, is just that, art - always evolving which is always pleasing to see on the board. You are always willing to try something new, and what you have here so far suggest something that will be very breathtaking when you finish - I personally look forward to what you do with this image, it is as if you have set a mood with the piece so far... I personally want to see how you build upon what you have so far... (holding off commenting more fully til you are finished).

catboi incubus mishi @ Thursday, February 3rd 2005, 2:28 PM
Oh, Olsie. I enjoy your art so much. :D This is gorgeous so far, I love the lineartlessness. <3333333

Yay! Lineless art! Reminds me of my Photoshop work. Truly cool! =D

Prismatic @ Friday, February 4th 2005, 11:21 AM
Wow! Is this finished now? It is looking so so amazing. I really love this style you're trying out. I mean.. you always do really great shading, and I enjoy watching you constantly improve on your methods.
The softness and richness of color in this is amazing. You did such a great job carrying the light source from the flame through out the entire picture.~~ And the shadowing is excellent as well. Excellent job~

celestial crou @ Friday, February 4th 2005, 11:42 PM
the detail!!!!!!!!! wow. I must say the foilage is wow.... I love the way you highlighted his clothes for the fire.

Kari Maxwell @ Saturday, February 5th 2005, 12:30 AM
Whoa... you edited it. I like it even more now. Mrow. That's... great. Good job. Hehe, me like the bird there on the side. The glow's great as well. Pretty. This is probably the best I've seen from you. Keep up the great work.

Jennifer @ Saturday, February 5th 2005, 7:46 PM
Whoa, this is amazing. It looks like a painting. Everything in the picture looks like I could just reach out and touch it. His hair looks full and soft. The bark on the trees looks rough. I really like your picture, Olsie. Amazing and wonderful!

darkrose @ Sunday, February 6th 2005, 2:46 AM
wow... this turned out spectacular. I really love all the shading work and everything just goes so well together... the colors are fantastic and the overall image is just wonderful. Really really wonderful.

Karasu @ Tuesday, February 8th 2005, 12:49 AM
It's really weird. I think I actually did a gift art for someone (i cant remember for the life of me----_____-----) with this character here....it might have actually been you!!! XD ahaha...but that was probably like 1-2 years ago. Anyway, I like the lighting here a LOT. Hands down.

Jennifer, The Blue Narian @ Saturday, February 12th 2005, 6:23 PM
I keep looking at this and thinking of the colors used in some of Brad Holand (probaly mangled spelling) work. Nice bold and intense. Plus very acrylic painterly in feeling. In my opinion, one of your better works.

Ikena @ Sunday, February 13th 2005, 4:14 PM
Woah! supah cool!
I love the coloring and the fact that is has no lines, the shades are awesome too!
lovely kaki!

Tigerhawk @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 4:12 AM
This picture is really spiffy. Love the detail put into it. I think the little bird is cute. I really love the way you did the hair.

Queen_Godzilla @ Saturday, March 5th 2005, 12:45 AM
Wow, for your first (or not first; I dunno XD) lineless art, this is really good. I mean it.

Your value range is excellent -- everything from black to white. Good, good. And that really works well with this, considering the multiple objects, the fire and the ... well, everything! XD

I like how it's all very smooth. And colorful too. Good lighting on ... wassiname's shirt. (Rocky? Terry? Gah! XD)

Wow. Seriously.

Wah! A much much much better picture of JT and Cora! Yay! I spent all day working on this picture... playing with pretty lighting and new colors for shading and such. I am rather fond of how it turned out... please comment and critique. I really am trying to improve.

Jennifer @ Sunday, January 30th 2005, 11:58 AM
This picture is so sweet and touching. I really like this, it's romantic. Your characters are very good-looking and have a sense of realism. The hero has such a tender expression. It's as if he's thinking that everything will be alright as long as she is with him. Your heroine has a more serious expression, like she is trying to figure out what happened and what they will do next. After seeing this picture, I would like to see more of their story. Great work.

catboi incubus mishi @ Sunday, January 30th 2005, 4:25 PM
What a sweet couple. (: I love their expressions, the woman with a sad, pondering one.. I almost feel as though they're sitting before a fire, just the way that they're snuggling. I love the man's look, gazing at her with love, probably, and wonder at what will happen to them. The sexy, open shirt can't help but make me think of romance novels. XD;; Wonderful image! :D

Shakaku @ Sunday, January 30th 2005, 6:48 PM
This is wonderfully done! Awesome colors, and romantic blue shading! Proportions and textures! All very much making me go WOW! Great!

Starisan @ Monday, February 7th 2005, 3:14 PM

Starisan @ Monday, February 7th 2005, 3:15 PM
you have wonderful realism here, the lighting is fantastic as a soft glow. I love her face!

Queen_Godzilla @ Saturday, March 5th 2005, 12:19 AM
A lot better, yes. Definitely. It has a good composition, good coloration, proportions, etc.

If I tilt my head the direction each of their heads is facing, I can see little facial details that have gone out of line. Mostly it's just one eye on each of them. No big deal. And the rest of their anatomies are perfect as far as I cna see.

Other than that -- I don't see much shadows in here. I know one source is blue light and it's from behind them, and I know one source is yellow/bone nad coming from the right, but... I think sometimes you're using blue shadows and that throws me off as to whether it's a highlight or shadow. Tisk, tisk.

Starisan @ Thursday, January 27th 2005, 3:00 PM
I really like the opposing color pallet. The cool colors look great against the fire. I love her eyes too because the purple incorporates both the red back and the blue front. Your shading is sublte and very well done. Talented Crou! I really like her lips too.

catboi incubus mishi @ Friday, January 28th 2005, 3:36 PM
Wow, the colors are rather bright. *__*; I just love her eyes and skintone, but her hair seems very sloppy, I don't much like the jumble of black on the right. Also, did you forget to shade her collar? It's so cute, by the way, with its little acorn. ^^

darkrose @ Friday, January 28th 2005, 8:21 PM
wow, bright. Interesting colors, I don't know if I would have ever thought to pair green skin with purple eyes with blue hair and neon lips... especially with that bright background it's so very cool and colorful. Wonderful job.

Crest @ Friday, January 28th 2005, 10:09 PM
Those are some bright colors. XD Love the skin tone and the way you colored the hair. The hair to me really stands out. And I adore those lips...yummy looking lips. I hope it's girl or else I may feel sick in the morning for saying that. XD Love the nose. :D

Jennifer @ Saturday, January 29th 2005, 7:25 PM
She's very pretty. I love her big, expressive eyes and that slightly shocked expression. It's like she was caught off-guard. I like what you did with her hair. The scribbly black lines give her hair a messy, damp look.

christabel @ Sunday, January 30th 2005, 9:48 PM
Eeee! Really great expression. ^^ I quite like the colours you used on her. Nice work, oi!

Ichumi @ Monday, January 31st 2005, 4:28 AM
So pretty! ;_;
Her expression is perfect, I especially love her deep eyes. The green lips are a nice touch.

Kwetha @ Wednesday, February 2nd 2005, 9:15 PM
Ooh! Shiney picture! I *love* the eyes. I want to steal them, and then I'd claim that I'd drawn them, and be egotistical. This is a really nice piece, in other words. Uhm, but there's a kinda lack of shading in her collar - was that intentional or did you forget? Also, there's some colour bleeding...it'd be nice if it was cleaned up a bit, because this is a really nice picture and it just detracts a bit. But the eyes, the eyes!

Queen_Godzilla @ Friday, March 4th 2005, 11:49 PM
Acorn, eh? I like her name.

The first thing I noticed, and the thing that made me want to comment, was her coloration. We don't get a lot of green-skinned, blue-haired girls around here. This is what really set her off from the rest of the pictures.

The second thing that made me want to comment was her face. Her wide, googly eyes and her pouty lips -- oh yes. Very good. There aren't any eyebrows that I can see, but I don't care. XD Her expression is one that kind of looks vacantly shocked. Like she's seeing something that looks weird and she doesn't know what it is.

The only thing I'd watch out is how ears connect to the head. The bottom of the ear is level with the bottom of the nose, and the top of the ear is level with the eyebrow. It doesn't really work on anime that well (I can attest to that) but... yeah. XD; Her ear is just kind of strangely connect to her head, like it's sticking out of her cheek -- all you'd need to do is add a line from her jaw to her ear ridge there. Or something like it. I dunno XD;

darkrose @ Wednesday, January 26th 2005, 7:30 AM
Yeah, Jasmine was my first impression too. Beautiful work though, I love all the swirly to her hair. I'm not going to bitch about anatomy because it looks fine, just incredibly stylized. Is nifty.

catboi incubus mishi @ Saturday, January 29th 2005, 12:07 AM

christabel @ Sunday, January 30th 2005, 9:53 PM
Desert witch? Really cool idea! ^v^

Ichumi @ Monday, January 31st 2005, 4:35 AM
Such clean lines, and the background looks great. ^^ Love her jewellery.

Queen_Godzilla @ Friday, March 4th 2005, 10:56 PM
My opinion? WAY TOO MUCH LIKE JASMINE! Shake it up a little -- give her a sari (it's a hindu garment) or, like, tulle sleeves or some giant earring hoops, or some head jewels, make her hair into pigtails or an afro, or just make it short hair. SOMETHING to make it more different from Jasmine. I mean, honestly. I know you're trying to go for middle eastern, but there are SO MANY more references than just Jasmine.

Other than that...

Proportions are off-kilter. Her ribcage needs to be wider, as wide as her hips. And her arms/shoulders are also disproportionate and skewed. From the neck to the shoulder there's a slanting muscle, and it kinda makes the neck/head/collarbone area look like the shape of a coat hanger. Keep that in mind. As for her arms, slightly lumpish. Start wide at the top of each joint and slim down to the next; also make sure that the forearm and arm are the same length.

As for the design part of the piece -- waaaaay too much wasted space. You could have done a lot more with the background. Seriously.

And lastly, the highlights and shadows. You merely put shadow on one side and highlight on the other. What that did was made her look embossed rather than three dimensional. Bas relief versus sculpture. You need to think of where the light hits and adjust the light/shadow accordingly. It's hard at first, but you'll get it soon enough.

Pick a spot the light is coming from and post an arrow showing its direction. Then, using that arrow as a guide, decide where the light would hit it. Where the light WOULDN'T hit would be where you put the shadows. Depending on how much light is reaching one place, you adjust the darkness and lightness of the shadow or highlight accordingly. Voila.

The title has nothing to do with the picture. Just something that makes me laugh and remember my \"younger days\"...Bite me...is also irrelevant.

Here, read a poem while you wait. It\'s for \"The Verge\" at my school. Literary mag thingy.

When the Rain cries,
and the River bleeds,
Call to me,
the Stigmata of Dreams.

I found stigmata in a dictionary. I like it. And when looking at everyone else\'s art, KHatch uses it too. So I didn\'t snitch it off of her. Stig-MATA...matamatamata
so here is the finished product! Wasn't what I intended but still good. I used thick lines instead of my usual scribbly ones. Yes, this is the same guy I drew before with the feathers and stuff. If you notice the tips of his hair isn't gold. I don't think I'll make them gold anymore for drawing and writting (describing) purposes. Any comments, questions, things you can't stuff in your head?

This is my favorite of yours! The eyes are very well detailed. You have excelent tear duct things and the ridges over the eyes and ....its so pretty! The nose is also done quite well for a mouse. (KUDOS) THough it seems like the nose should be shifted to *my* left. Just a little. I suggest using the copy button. IT works wonders. the mouth may also have to shift a little so that it corasponds. And that mouth. XD I love it! The skin tones are almost done it looks like. (unless you are going for a more extreme color variation in the shading and highlights) And the bg. Its simple but when this pic is finnished i think it will complement nicely to your figure. I love the use of cool tones. Though with this FREEZING weather my love may change. LOL. Also on the head and back part of the head you did a nice correction. Now all you have to do is clean up those lines and make him/ her PRETTY. What color have you chosen for the eye color? FINNSIH SOON!

NOW FOR A BRIEF COMMENT TO THE OTHER DROWTALES MEMBERS! Starisan is my friend from college and i invited her to the drowtales board 'cause of the friendly atmosphere. PLEASE do not make me regret it. Wow, great start! I love the eyes, and the nose is VERY well done, although it appears to be tilted a little too far, as in the angle isn't quite right. He's looking more towards the camera than that. Other than that, the proportions so far are AMAZING, truly beautiful. His head is just the right shape and size, the eyebrows are more like real eyebrows, thick and slightly differently shaped, his ears are the right place on his head and the angles match on both sides. His neck is just beautiful, keep going! This is going to be totally great!

This will be very nice if you finish it. The skin is well shaded so far, but you need a lot of highlighing still. Unless you're going for a gentle light setting, then well it's pretty good like it is, just a few more shadows here and there.

Queen_Godzilla @ Friday, March 4th 2005, 8:17 PM
Hm. The facial structure is pretty well done. The eyes are the only thing slightly off kilter (just one, really, and that's only if you really, really look.)

And now we get to the real issue at hand, the one that is the biggest impedance to the picture: the highlights and shadows.

Everything has highlights and shadows. It's a fundamental lesson in illustration. How they are applied makes or breaks a picture.

In your picture, the most I see is shadows. Her skin, even in faint light, should have a highlight, because if there's enough light to cause shadow there is enough light to cause a highlight. And considering how I can see your shadows, but none of your highlights (save the extra sheen on the elf's eyes and lips) you probably need to work on this.

Let's also discuss the shadow placement. The light seems to be coming from the left. At least, it seems so. Either that or the top left. Placement of a light source is equally important, you know. Having light and shadow just randomly everywhere isn't exactly the way things are done. So... just pick a light source someday. It makes things better, trust me. Takes a while to get used to, but it does look awesome when it's done.

I'd want to address your smudging, but I won't. It's really hard to blend stuff in OekakiBBS.

This is Moriona my black Asperi Nightmare! Asperi\'s are usually and only white to a pale light-blue.
Moriona is some Elvish language for \"dark gift\" I\'m pretty sure it\'s Tengwar. Mori is Kal\'s best friend. He helped her from getting bit by a werewolf but he was to late. More on the story but my hands hurt.
Alrighty then! The picture is complete. I'm really happy with how the leaves came out. Time may be wrong because I was commenting for a minute or so. The fireflies came out alright. Sorta reminds me how I made stars in Photoimpression with my mouse before my tablet. Gwad I really dislike that program.

Have any questions, comments, things you can\'t stuff in your head?

I think they could use a little more emphasis though. The shading on the horse is nice. I can see the muscles and stuff! ^_^ good job.

She looks almost like a zombie without them - if it weren't for the rest of her expression. And that hair! It's just GORGEOUS! Oh my goodness! So much detail is in that hair! It's lovely!

Can't quite understand why they're hugging each other, didnt' think they had that close of a relationship based on your previous comics. Starisan @ Saturday, January 15th 2005, 4:31 AM
awww, that's very sweet although I wonder what is being plotted...to the drawing. I love the contrast between the hair and the dark face and the shadows and highlights are beautiful. I find the eyes interesting (one green and one blue) is it so in real life? The ears look great by the way and so do the teeth, not too much detail but just enough ( I wish I knew how to do that). Great hair too, heh, I like so much of this...Wow, wonderfully rich color on the purple shirt, it feels velvety. The only thing that I am unsure about is how you portrayed the ear showing through the hair but I don't know what suggestion that I would give...maybe make it more sublte..? Like the Background too, yea!

Kage Kitsune @ Saturday, January 15th 2005, 10:52 PM

Chime @ Monday, January 24th 2005, 1:52 PM
The over-all picture is fabulous - the facial expression of Lai'Rena, but Arpoogles' looks .... strange. He looks too old O_o

My favorite parts are the hair, and the background. The hair looks so soft, touchable even. And the bacground is life-like - Though it does seem they are standing in front of a pastel painting if I look too hard ^^;;;

Beautiful work, KHatch. Keep it up ^^

Queen_Godzilla @ Tuesday, March 1st 2005, 7:00 PM
Gah, you are getting BETTER and BETTER at digital painting, KHatch. Honestly.

I like how you colored most of the outlines in this one, instead of leaving them all black. It just works so much better, I think. I should start doing it myself. It just makes things more realistic in my eye, that line coloration.

And the texure in the actual coloration and values is really a nice touch. It really adds to the colored lines and makes it even more realistic. I especially love the smooth skin for some reason.

And, wow. Those are some HUGE smiles. I like the poses too. And HOLY HELL, how did you get the hair to fall so nicely? (And the clothes to wrinkle so well?)

Ah, I dunno. I just *REALLY* like this.

I have no memory of being informed about this rule change. So i'll need to talk about it with Toten. So please guys, if someone do 2 pictures in a day, don't spank them. spank them if they don,t comments enough compared to their images count though XD.

I love the hair: it has a very interesting concept (the shades i mean). the wings also have a rather appealing color and position. i actually like this pic. looking forward to see more of your stuff! :D

Harlequin @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 12:49 AM
You know, I like the soft feathery look to those wings, but the body by contrast seems too blurry. Actually everything seems to be too blurry. There's really no depth of field here. The background and the figure are apparently on the same plain...thus background isn't really BACKground. And...her butt...well that's a mighty flat butt. lol Her legs are too straight, thighs tend to have a little bit of a curve to them. I like the idea of this, and the view, since I really love those wings, just some anatomical and technical things that I have problems with really. Other than that GREAT colors. Love that red hair with the muted blues in those wings.

Kern...we get to spank people? When did that happen? No matter! AT LAST MY HOUR HAS COME!!!!!

Segzhan @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 8:40 AM
Well, one of the requiertment of the assignement was that everything had to be blurry like a dream. ;p But thanks for the comments, guys. ^__^

Tigerhawk @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 3:04 PM
I like it blurry. Well if it represents something in a dream what does the picture represent? If it was a dream. The hair came out great. Though it should be a tad bit blurry and the wings more fluffy ^^ . Good job.

Catboi- your enforcing the rules has gone a tad to far. It's NOT for YOU to decide whether it's spamming or not, it's the moderators. The "2 pictures in one day" is on;y considered spamming depending on the content in the picture and/or on how long it took. AND it's also stated it's for the moderators to decide. I comment quite a bit and I still don't get the somments I would like from people. And when I do, they're empty. They're just said. No meaing behind it. Why? because this rule where you can ONLY draw if you have the 5 c=1 p. Sounds good, and SEEMS to work but when I recieve comments I feel they're only commenting so they can draw. I HAVE to comment if i would like to draw on here. I have no other choice. Yes I domment empty comments because I occasionally there are times even I cannot find things to comment on. Sorry guys. Instead of trying to be Mr./Mrs. Nice guy let the mods do there job. What the heck are they here for if you keep doing it for them. I understand you're only trying to help but somethings in order to help we've got to restain ourselves. Trust me I know.

Segzhan @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 4:37 PM
To Tigerhawk;

Yes, it is kinda supposed to be a dream. More the representation of a tought.

The assignement was to choose a story-song, and then we had to try to think like the character. I just represented the fact that the character wanted to fly away that she felt powerless in what was happening to her (this is why she's naked. Vulnerability.) And then, she got her innocence destroyed beause of the darkness of her life.

I translated you the song, so you know the story. ;p

Tigerhawk @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 4:42 PM
Alrighty. Hmmm. I invision her having broken wings, wanting to fly but can't because the pain incapability to. I also invision boney-like claws trying to take her into darkness.

Segzhan @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 4:46 PM
I was planning to do something like that for the third part. :P

windblade @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 8:35 PM
TigerHawk, please, if you want to fight someone, do it by e-mail?
On the drawing: I like the way you blurred the colors on the wings, it gives them a much softer look, like real fluffy feathers instead of drawings of feathers. This works well for the hair too, and maybe for the grass, but the rest of the drawing would benefit from a less blurry look...
Lil tip! You don't have to, but I feel your pictures would have a greater impact if you used less... bright colors. Make them a bit more dramatic by making them less pure, if you see what I mean

Tigerhawk @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 9:06 PM
Who said I was fighting. I was simpling commenting on a problem that I felt was getting out of hand.

Little Elf @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 9:26 PM
The wings, there are feathery. Yeah, I'm just repeating, but they are! The details on her hair and wings are very pretty. Yush.

darkrose @ Sunday, February 27th 2005, 5:37 PM
I really like the lineless one. Her wings look beautifully soft and feathery, and her hair looks just perfect if not a little ragged at the bottom (although most people's hair isn't in pristine condition, so it makes it more realistic). The metal pole is really very well done, and I like the overall feel of the picture. Good job :)

Time for a real comment, huzzah! Well, since I don't know French, I'm not even going to bother with that. ^^; The first thing that struck me about this image is the thick and somewhat sloppy lineart - I think it would have looked better if the lineart were thin and sloppy, or thick and clean, like it is in her shoulder and arm area. I don't much like the bold green background, it doesn't go well with her red and black outfit to me. O: I really like the shading on her socks and her skirt, the plaid looks really good. :DDD The perspective on the table and mirror seem slightly off, but I can't say how. I like the added in wings. ;]

Verna_Venisa @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 12:08 PM
This is very pretty, i like the concept quite a bit. However, the table seems rather ackward looking to me. If this was a real table, it would be slanting downward toward us ((as cool as that would be)) ><; It also looks like the table would be morphing into the wall, because of the lack of ground-ness. Other than that though it looks great. I like her skirt, the plaid is cute ^^

Prismatic @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 1:33 PM
This is really quiet pretty. Wonderful job on the pose!~ And I really like how you carried the shadows through out the picture. Her outfit is really pretty and I like the slope to her wings. Even the image in the mirror seems to line up well. I have to agree that perhaps the table seems a bit awkward however.
I really like what you do with the shading. It brings a lot of depth to the picture~ Almost ready to get a translator so I can read your quote.

Segzhan @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 5:00 PM
Funny people likes the clothing. In that assignement, we had to draw ourselves as the main character of the story-song (see my second picture for explanations of the project). So it is me, with my clothes. ;p

darkrose @ Saturday, February 26th 2005, 10:42 PM
Well the coloring is definitely improving. I like the plaid skirt, it's very nice. The lineart bothers me, I'll be honest... but maybe you can do your regular thick scribbled lineart and then start a new layer over the top and just go over it in a thin, solid line? That might clean it up a lot, because your skill is obviously there.

Ikena @ Sunday, February 27th 2005, 5:55 PM
I cant read it, tho the pic is nice.
The perspective seems a bit off tho it kinda suits the mood of the pic. I must say that I ove her skirt =3

Hehe! That's kinda cute! Also, you did a good job with the coloring and lighting! ^w^ Especially the coloring.

Oh! And the background's pretty nice too! I like those littel lines and dots. ^w^

Iaaa, Chiaki is sinfully cute! I have a feeling Takeshi's not going to take him where the boy intended first... and they're going to end up in the eeevil black ninja's bedroom!

darkrose @ Saturday, February 26th 2005, 10:40 PM
Heheh, cute! The background is great, the texture is great, the coloring is (as always) fantastic. I love your style, it's so different and amusing. The angel's legs look a little off to me, like they're too high or something, and the cloth on his shorts could use some more wrinkles, but I still really like it. Your hands though... grr, your hands. I wish I could draw hands like that..

Beautiful flow of the hair. The bright green you used for the dragonflies gives it sort of a dreamlike feel with the smokey background.

Very cute image, I like her soft hair quite a bit. :] I like the little bugs flying around, they're really adorable.

Segzhan @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 4:54 PM

Pretty lights and magic effects. You rendered the luminosity pretty well. And the hair is beautiful. Pretty piece of art you got here. =)

Little Elf @ Tuesday, February 22nd 2005, 7:33 PM
This is very pretty. Her hair looks great with the littel details with the lighting and stuff. The little fire/dragonflies?? are nice with their greeness. The little trails they leave are pretty. If you were going for the blurry effect, I think you should've used the watercolor tool for her eyes. They kinda stand out. I like your signature at the bottom! I's all prettyful... XD Nice job.

darkrose @ Saturday, February 26th 2005, 10:37 PM
I always love how soft your shading is, even when things get a little wonky in the lineart and anatomy areas your pictures are ALWAYS pleasant to look at just because of how well they flow. The hair is gorgeous, I love how it spills out over her arms and the ground, and the little glowy magic bits are very cool indeed. Her expression is soft and amused, which fits perfectly, and the background is just the right texture and color to really bring it all together. Wonderful job.

Ikena @ Sunday, February 27th 2005, 5:51 PM

First of all, welcome to the board! Very interesting character, but what first struck me was how the background clashed with her - I don't like the use of orange for the background, it doesn't look good with her red hair. Perhaps it could have worked better with a red, and a darker shade of grey. Now for the figure - Angelus, yes? Anyway, I have to say, her cloak, outfit, and the stone she's kneeling on all melt together too much. I would have suggested slightly different shades for at least the rock, perhaps a lighter grey, or even with a brownish tinge. Now for her face, it has a masculine feel to it, I think because it's so oval-like. I probably wouldn't have known she was a woman had you not said it in the description, and I really had to look close for her breasts. (Wow, that sounds perverted~) Her .. artificial eye, I'm assuming, is quite interesting, I like the black marks running down her cheek. I especially like the shading on her gloves, it really suggests a shiny leather, although that component is missing from the rest of her outfit. That's a mighty difficult pose you did, and you pulled it off quite well. I think her feet look bit, and lack the detail the rest of her clothes have. As for her cloak, like I said earlier, it melts in with the rest of her outfit, and doesn't stand out much. I like how you gave it highlights near the top, you probably could have given it more on the lower part of her cloak, as well. Finally, her hair. I really like how it's flowing in the way that it is, although I would have opted for a light light shade of red, a pink as a substitute for the white highlights. They seem too harsh to me.
But. This is a very very good first submission, and I really look forward to more of your work. (:

Angelcide @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 4:05 AM
thanks very much =D
I was trying to get her to look like she was blending with the shadows...ANy advice on how to achieve that look properly??

darkrose @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 7:40 PM
I have to say this is really excellent. The crouching pose is beautifully done, the shading is fantastic, her hair is pretty and swirly. She looks like an assassin <{^.^}> So welcome to the board! It's lovely, fantasy themed, well drawn, over the time limit, and generally wonderful. Congrats! Not many new people get a grasp of the rules on their first try.

Prismatic @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 8:58 PM
Hmm. I think this is really well done, especially for your first submission!~
Welcome to the board~
Her pose is excellent, as has been said before. You even got the hands correct. something I'm horrible with. Let's see.. Her outfit is really nifty. And as has been stated the shine on her arm thins is really well done, making it my favorite part of her outfit.
Now.. for blending into the shadows this definatly wasn't a bad start~ I think adding more shading of dark as it gets farther away from the light would of helped with the depth of the shadows. So.. you could sort of start with the grey that's on her pants and end in an almost blacky charcoal color in the left corner of her cloak and shadows. Wow, hope that made sense.
The only thing that seems off to me is the highlighting of her hair. Her hair is really pretty, and the swirly parts of it are groovy... but in the shadows there probably wouldn't be highlights. At least not all the way down where the rest of her is in the shadows. I could be wrong though.
I like the background. It looks almost as though she's hiding in the shadows of a fence or something, with light shining through.

catboi incubus mishi @ Friday, February 18th 2005, 9:21 AM
Well, my suggestion would be to have quite a bit less orange and more grey/black - or at least, like I said earlier, substitute red for the orange. I think the background probably isn't suited for a 'disappearing into the shadows' deal, it reminds me more of a room with holes in the ceiling, and light is pouring through. Which, actually, is really cool. XD Maybe nest time you draw her, you could have her in a dark alleyway, or in the midst of trees. Make her more shadow than substance. :)

windblade @ Tuesday, February 22nd 2005, 10:35 PM
sorry to say this, but there are a few anatomical mistakes and it'd be better to correct them before you start coloring, mmh? =p The legs are much too long for the body, and the pose (at hip-level) seems extremely uncomfortable... From the torso up, though, it's a very good start! Will comment more when you're done.

Tigerhawk @ Wednesday, February 23rd 2005, 12:55 AM
i think it's her head that makes everything unporportionate, to small... her right arm is to short, and the legs are to spread out. Stilt legs ^^ *cough* I love you Segz ^^ ...no not that way...
maybe I could comment it more on MSNMess if you have time

Amary-chan @ Thursday, February 24th 2005, 8:37 AM
so far it looks good, although the legs are wonky. she looks like she's falling backwards. if you straighten out her right leg she would take more of a stance. keep going, i'm sure it's going to be great when its done

Segzhan @ Thursday, February 24th 2005, 4:56 PM

I love it! Nice to see your work, Ghis.

windblade @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 3:49 AM
woah. You really made a big effort for the shading and the highlights! All the folds in Loki's robe are AMAZING! That fireball looks pretty cool too! (Is it me, or is the side of his hat catching fire? =p wouldn't surprise me, it'd be Loki's style!)

Thanks a lot, Ghis!

Ghislain WildCat @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 1:44 PM
*to windy* Well, It's more like the fireball reflecting on the hat than anything... but seeing it your way, it's true that this little lighting effect could be turned into his hat starting to catch fire. XD

Bad windy! You managed to turn one of my rare serious pics into a humorous one! XD

darkrose @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 5:31 PM
ooh, is fantastic! Beautiful job with the folds in the cloth, and details like stiching are important! Everything looks really great especially lineart wise. My only comment would be a lack of contrast between shaded and lit areas... fire has a nasty habit of throwing darker than normal shadows and bright orange/yellow highlights... you've got the highlights down pat, all that's missing are the black spots. Still, it's excellent work, and it's good to see your art again. <{^ ^}>

Prismatic @ Thursday, February 17th 2005, 9:04 PM
Very nice pose. I am especially fond of the clothing and hat. Ths shading and highlights are magnificant. And the details to it are wonderful.. such as the stitching.
The face was well done and looks rather proportional. As well as the hands~
I like how the background is blurred bringing more focus to him.~

wow, the first think that caught my eye about this picture is the wonderful and intricated coloring/lighting/shading on the skirt! I think it was dont just -perfectly-, however i think that the shading on the face could use a little more contrast, as well as the wand (the wand jewel seems to stand out too much and the stick part of it doesnt seem to stand out at all) I can see you put a lot of effort into the clothing so I give you that credit!

Karasu @ Monday, February 21st 2005, 1:33 AM
OH my gosh, this is so beautiful for having almost no black line art here. Not that it's a requirement for beauty, but it shows a skill that few can perfect...and I think you're pretty darned close to perfection here. I love how you captured the motion, honestly, I think it's just fabulous. I think that the hand (and I know its really hard to do that perspective for a hand) needs a LITTLE work, it seems a little out of proportion for the perspective. But. You know. So .....how did your christmas go? Get everything you wanted?

AnimeCanuck @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 3:14 AM
I've never played Breath of Fire... I also didn't get everything I wanted. I meant to go out to get Burnout 3: Takedown for the PS2 with some Christmas money, but it's also sold out everywhere (and more than I thought. I didn't realize it was a new release) so I hope I can still find it used at the rental store for $40.

He has a nice happy expression. Those are really dark, thick lines for his eyes. Also, is that a scar or a tattoo on his forehead. Are you going to colour this?

Rigga Mortis @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 3:56 AM
Your style is really defined, Crou. :D My only nit-pick is that the size of the eyes distorts the shape of the face/head on the left (our right, his left) side. Otherwise, that is a really cute nose, and I like the shape of the mouth and teeth. I really want to see this all coloured.

Skittles-chan @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 4:03 AM
The eyes are pretty cool, but it seems a little awkward on the left, like it comes out too much. I could tell almost instantly who it was though =3 I've played all of the BoF games except this most recent one. The first few are great.

Oooh! Izzat Ryu from Breath of fire 2? ^w^ Very god job on the sunset background! I love the colors you used in it! And you also did nicely with the solids.
But maybe you shouldn't have made his eyes so big. ^w^; It seems like it deforms his face a bit. *prepares to receive any pointy object thrown in my direction*

celestial crou @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 11:27 AM
-Ghislain WildCat You know....if you really want to torture someone you dont use pointy objects....you use blunt or dull objects and salt. Perhaps lemon or ham juice.... LOL...

NO really. NOw that you mention it his face does seem a bit akward. But because my drawing style literly revolves around the eyes i think it was the face itself that is perhaps too small? Donno...this is not a question one should ponder at 6:30 in the morning.

*Throws cookies at Ghislain WildCat. * Thankyou for the advise!

Totenmaske @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 7:52 PM
I was withholding on commenting on this image last night crou, simply because I didn?t know if you were truly finished with the image ? yeah I know rather silly of me ? but I personally liked the way it was coming out so I didn?t feel it would be ?just? if I made a full comment on an unfinished piece. What is interesting, only to me I suppose ? because I used to be a fan of the Breath of Fire series (was, mainly because after awhile of the same characters being reintroduced in each new game, a few new characters, but the same main who never seemed to develop over the series ? I began to feel cheated) is the fact that I didn?t know they put a cross type scar on his forehead, but apparently they thought that was an interesting thing to put into the GBA version. Which tempts me to go out and purchase it, if I can find it.

Other than that, I must agree you did an exceptional job overall ? even though the face has been said by a few to be a little off mainly because of the result of the eyes, I personally think this is one of the more recent images of yours that I personally like a lot. The background, particularly the sunset with the sense of dark foreboding clouds really is crafted rather nicely and the colours are very well blended to give a wonderful effect. The sea itself is adequate but really nicely carried by the slight reflection of the clouds and lighting.

I personally like the fact that you depended upon thin line work in this image for the two focal points in the canvas (the dragon form of Ryu and Ryu himself). I think the overall colouring and line art in Ryu is more polished though, mainly because I see a little colour bleeding in the dragon?s eyebrow as well as the yellow highlights seem a little to vibrant, generally it would be really nice to see some sense of texture ? though personally I think you were going for that fine cel-shading look overall. I do like the dragon; don?t get me wrong, I just feel that it isn?t as polished as Ryu.

Now I know you have heard a few negatives about Ryu?s face and the setup of his eyes, well the overly large sense of the eyes and the odd sense of spacing on the face. But to be truthful, the overall effect isn?t as overpowering as it has been made out to be. I personally like the overall look of him ? even the little detail of the cross scar that Capcom has recently introduced on his forehead. The skin and the clothing are fantastically coloured in my opinion ? the eyes are a little odd only in the sense of colouring approach compared to the rest of the character. The line art is fantastic, and the overall look of the eyes remind me somewhat of how Harlequin crafts them, which is a compliment btw. The colouring itself is very nice overall though in Ryu and that is what seems to make the image ? the fact that you put a lot of work in getting a sense of shading on the face and clothing brings everything to life. I particularly like the way you rendered the lower lip cress, but it is carried on in the slight colouring ? as if it fades away realistically from the line art point into colour. But that?s just me. Overall fantastic image crou, and I do hope you get a chance to own Breath of Fire.

KHatch @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 8:19 PM
I like the semisolid shading, and I LOVE the background. The lineart is pretty and the anime type face is well done. Yeah, the eyes are a little buggy but the way you made them is good, so I'm gonna ignore that.

This looks really great now that it's finished ^^ I really, really love the water in the background; it's a little more realistic than bright blue or green. The sky looks very cool too, especially how the light is sort of seeping into the dark, like there's some kind of fire-storm type thing going on. The one thing that bothers me is how Ryu's hair is shaded solid, and nearly everything else in the image is watercoloured (which has enough various colours that I didn't even notice until just now.) But really overall, this looks fantastic ^^

Wow, is the timer right? *pokes*

Anyway, yesh, another sketch. This one is my Drow character, Ydrah'Ska. When she was young, she got attacked by a monster. The creature drove her totally insane and ripped half of her face. Her family, hoping she might recover one day, casted a guadian (her hair changing in snake) to look over her. Sadly, she became more and more crazy, and killed her whole family.

Q: Another sketch?
A: Huh, yeah, I wanted to see if I could try something with the layers, and it worked. ^-^

Q: But still, you have two unfinished sketches.
A: I, huh,... Know. Your point?

Q: You're just a procrastinator who can't finish her pics!!! Sue you!
A: Yes, I love you too. Now, go play with a misfunctionnal lawnmover. (thanks to Shas-o for that one. ^_^).

Anyway, comment are always welcome!

Tigerhawk @ Friday, February 4th 2005, 2:49 AM
YAY!!!! You DID come! This is coming out great! Finish IT!!!

Totenmaske @ Friday, February 4th 2005, 6:19 AM
Well to quote you directly:
Q: But still, you have two unfinished sketches.
A: I, huh,... Know. Your point?

Totenmaske A: Well see the point is this, it is seen as spamming the board ? see rule 9 of Drowkaki. This is your first warning on this issue ? I am going to give you time to refine this image as well as finish the first image on the board ? if you have any trouble with either you can always email me and I?ll be happy to help. But really you should finish an image that you begin, especially since the first one can be considered gift art to Kern. Now that being said I have to agree I like the overall look of your images so far ? if you went over and refined your line art to something smoother it would be really impressive.
Btw this image is under the time limit of a minimum of 30 min ? yeah by two min, but still just have to inform you of that.

Now overall the expression of this character is fantastically rendered I really like the way you rendered the ears and well the hand gesture is very nice ? but like I have said it seems to need some refining. The colouring with this image, which I hope you will get around to ? especially after I have given you an official warning ? can be really interesting especially around the ?eye attachment. The snake is a nice touch btw ? btw the hair, you can experiment if you want to try to get an individual strand look with the application when you go to colour ? some people use highlight and burn tools. Just a little helpful info?

Now just finish your first image and then this ? and don?t forget to comment.

catboi incubus mishi @ Friday, February 4th 2005, 2:18 PM
Exactly, what Toten said. When you submit unfinished sketches, they push down other images that have been worked on a lot longer, and thus resulting in those images getting less comments. I think it would be wise for you to go over the rules once more, because this lackadaisical attitude you have about them isn't doing you any favors and also makes you look rude.

!!!!! El/ Ella es muy loco!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. This is quite sketchy indeed. You have a lot of detail that beggs for color. I cant wait to see it done.

Kari Maxwell @ Saturday, February 5th 2005, 12:25 AM
Looks nice. Colour it? Might look even better if you did. Yay.

Karasu @ Tuesday, February 8th 2005, 12:48 AM
accidentally hit enter -_- *ahem* So! I liket his a lot! I hope that you color it because it seems a little hard to gaze at for too long just because of all the sharp lines....I think it also would be way better colored! *hint* ^_~

Segzhan @ Saturday, February 12th 2005, 3:24 PM

Well, I have the joy to tell you that this is a collab account. I do the lineart, and the amazing Tigerhawk take care of the coloring. ^__^ Leave comments!

Tigerhawk @ Sunday, February 13th 2005, 6:01 AM
Well now that you told them that I colored it, no one's going to comment on it...because I colored it *rolls eyes and gives a short smirk*

The huge glass eye thinguie creeps me out (and reminds me of Mad Eye Moody from HP)
I like her normal eye and the fact that she is insane!

Right, well I\'ll get back to this probably tomorrow. It\'s gaming night, time to take off... but I didn\'t want to lose what I had. This will eventually be the Dark Goddess Loriana from my world, I haven\'t yet decided if she\'s wearing a mask or if she\'s just adjusted her face to be metallic <{^.^}>. Any comments or helpful tips would be appreciated now while I still have room to change things!

Yay! Done! Took a rather different turn than I had expected... but I did her hair and then the stars just begged to be put in, and it kind of went from there. So yah, any comments helpful. Loriana, Goddess of Darkness and Mother of Night.

Holy crap! Very very nice; the colors of the shades and highlights are perfect so far! :D

Starisan @ Monday, February 7th 2005, 3:17 PM
Great on the coloring, I could believe that it is her real face...If you think of it in terms of dawn being young and new, rebirth and night being the final stage of a day. I like the stars in her hair, my only comment would be that the day looks a little too bright to be heading into evening.

Karasu @ Tuesday, February 8th 2005, 12:41 AM
wow! How creative! I really love this, a lot! Since i live in new mexico, I should say that this is very southwestern themed. : ) you did a good job here on the shadng, but I think the eyes could have used a little more depth....the sunset is just gorgeous though! and I love the stars in the hair : )

Cai @ Tuesday, February 8th 2005, 11:11 PM
The metallic look of the mask/face is very very nice, though the shift from blue to gray to blue (forehead/upper face to lower face to chin) is a bit awkward. The night sky in her hair looks beautiful, though.

Her eyes also seem a bit unfocused for some reason. But overall, I'm impressed - I couldn't do something with watercolors like this. ^.^

Totenmaske @ Friday, February 11th 2005, 5:20 AM
Just to let you know darkrose, I?ve archived this image last night simply because I was really impressed with the overall look of this ? sorry about not getting to commenting in a timely fashion though. That being said I must say the reason I really like this image, is the fact that she reminds me of the ?Robot? in Fritz Lang?s Metropolis. There was a comment I thought, that said something about the way the transition of the faces blue seemed a little off ? but I don?t see it now for some reason, but I have to agree that there seems to be that kind of effect ? plus the eye seems a little out of proportion on the ?dawn/sunset? side of the canvas which gives it a rather wonky look mainly due to that eye. But still that does not mean that this image is anything other than exceptional.

That being said, I really like the overall look of the skyline, especially the nice cloud work is rather realistic with the way you have eased the overall look? not concentrating on fluffy clouds you seem to go with the more subtle indication of wispy work, which in my eye seems more realistic. The little sunlight rays are nice, as well. Frankly the image itself is impressive in this area more than anything else.

I also like the fact of the stars in her hair, truly come across as the coming of night. Everything seems to work wonderfully, except for the wonky aspect the eyes bring to the table not to mention that the more I look at it, the red lips seem to be a little too much colour for the scene ? taking away somewhat of the feel overall on canvas. But this I personally think is just my preference ? if you did the lips and eyes as you did the face (with that skin effect) I think the actual sense of transposing the two elements of night and day could have been brought further into the end product. But overall this is a fantastic image darkrose, hope to see more of the same attention to detail of the skyline as well as the face in general in your future images!

Prismatic @ Friday, February 11th 2005, 9:16 PM
This is a really beautiful piece of art. I'm loving it. Your use of color is so marvelous.
I really like the way it seems she's rolling in the night as the sun sets. Sort of reminds me of when Apollo rides his chariot to make the sun rise~ The stars in her hair are really pretty. She really does seem to be partially made up of the night sky.
The highlights and shading in her face are so good. There's so much depth there, she really does seem to be three dimensional. The softness of teh background is wonderful as well! I particualry like the rays of light coming from the sun.~~

Ikena @ Sunday, February 13th 2005, 4:45 PM
ooh nice! I must admit she kinda scares me tho!
I really like the colorings on the face, it looks so metallic! =3
the bg is simple but nice i like it!

Tigerhawk @ Monday, February 14th 2005, 4:10 AM
her face gives me the impression of metal. can't say to much why. but I do like the effect with the hair making the day turn to night.

the bg has an interesting concept i should say. the choice of colors blends well with the eerie mood of this pic. the hair also (color and shape). o.o finish soon??? *puppy eyes*

Okay, I'm finally done. The background sucks, but oh flipping well. lol Anyway. 'Tis Draco and Pansy as I said before. It happens to deal with an RP between a friend and I, that's why they look different. -nods- Don't ask about the \"LM\" on Pansy's chest... you don't want to know.

Oh yes, before I forget. Thank you Mishi for giving me a base line art for their mouths. For some odd reason I just can't draw mouths. -pout-

Comments would be nice. ^_^

Heh, they were totally hinting at this pairing in the third Harry Potter movie, in my opinion. xD I really really like Draco's feathery cut, it's sexy. Pansy looka little bland in comparison, though, so I hope you can jazz her up when you color it. (:

christabel @ Sunday, January 30th 2005, 9:46 PM

I still haven't seen the third movie! ;~; Pshuu.

Hmm.. I hadn't gotten to commenting on this page yet, though I keep meaning to. This is really pretty, and a nice loving picture right in time for valentine's day! la.. uh yeah.
The poses are nice, and I really like the softness of this piece. The fish net shirt is really great!~~
I like thier faces and the eyes. very pretty, as well as the makeup. The softness of his hair is really good.
Only suggestion I can think to make is to put some shading in their shirts. It would add a little more depth to the picture~

Kari Maxwell @ Friday, February 18th 2005, 10:32 PM
Actually... the picture had nothing to do with Valentines Day...
