Drowkaki was finally upgraded to Poteto 5.1 then to Wax Poteto. A much needed upgrade after so many years without change and with all these bugs plaguing us. We had to trash our custom MODS but it seem that wax poteto include some of the stuff we had. Avatar(go in your profile) and picture uploading. It also come with some new features as well. The most important one is to be able to re-touch everything, including SHI-PAINTER pictures , non animated oekaki and uploaded stuff. I'm sorry we didn't do this upgrade sooner. Now the board is pretty much lifeless, but i hope now that approving new accountsl became optional, that some life will return around here on this fantasy-only oekaki board.

Okay. No one is allowed to laugh at my nebula or my temporal rip. Shut up. >.<

Anyway, this is based on a roleplay between my boyfriend and myself; it's kinda a what-if thing. The woman-thing is a Templar named Risel. The Templar are a mortal-created race, thus they don't have souls. They're really bitter about this, blah blah, and so they try to steal the Keys to Creation (the universe of the Gods). My character and Jason's stop Risel before she can get into creation, of course (because she's evil and we're good X3) But anyway, this is a 'what if Risel got the Keys and opened the gate to creation' or whatever. Yeah.

Ph33r teh crappy space-ness!

Inspired by the Christmas Carol "Here We Come A-Wassailing".

From left to right is Shire (mine), Dhell (Windy's), Jiji (Mishi's), Catboi (Mishi's), Kale (Ikena's), and Fron (mine). Oh and the little blue ball is Satan (my lil bro's).

Happy birthday Windy and Almalthia!

And her top is so cool, you seem to have quite some taste with clothes design^_-
The only thing that looks a bit out of proportion is her left arm(to my right)

I really like this, her eyes are deadly green>_<

Or is it only a question of perspective? Cause if it is, nevermind. I suck at perspective. -_-;

The hair looks great and I love the detail you put into the outfit. Great job!

windblade @ Saturday, November 26th 2005, 9:23 PM
I know a neat trick to give your character an aura or to deepen the shadows... all you have to do, once your lineart is done and your coloring and shading is complete, is to flatten the image on layer 0, then select watercolors and paint the top layer in the color you want to use (black, dark blue, green, etc...). To give more emphasis on the highlights, use the eraser tool. If you want, you can do the exact opposite by painting the top layer in white (or any pale color of your choice, really) and erasing the shaded areas.

tdweulf @ Saturday, November 26th 2005, 11:31 PM
really? cool and thanks for the tip I'll be sure to use it in my next one ^^

Skittles-chan @ Sunday, December 11th 2005, 6:20 PM
The outfit is pretty cool, and I like how detailed it is. I also like that the lineart's pretty neat and maybe not smooth but not really gross sketchy. I would definately work on foreshortening, however, and use references when it comes to fire - it's way too difficult to illustrate without one. I even have trouble when I -do- use a reference x.x;
And her eyes -are- wicked.

Hellooo. Im Kia. The timer is off by the way. This only took me two hours. I fell asleep so. Hrm.
This is a vampire. His name is Vince. He is a painter. That is all he does with his time. oh.. well besides luring people into his home with all his charm and then you know.. viciously drain them of their blood. Hes got no heart. Some people may say its impossible but trust me. This guys got none. All he cares about is his painting really.
Anyway. I have a question. I choose to use a style of art that takes me quite a bit of time, and often is very hard for me. I mean, I can accomplish a decent picture with this particular style if I have the patience to sit there and do it. I really like the style, despite the fact it isnt so hot right now. Should an artist be using a style that is so hard for them and challenges them? Will they be able to approve on it? Or should they keep to a style that is easier for them? Because I dont want to continue a style that is hard for me if Im not going to be improving very much because it is above my level.

mazilwolf @ Thursday, November 17th 2005, 12:05 PM
if it whart works for you, its good, screw what every one else says, where i live, every one hates manga, i i decided, stuff it, i like manga!
and its good if it challnes you, life's all about challenges.
but if you wanna try somthing else, try somthing else, you'll never know what you might learn if you dont. 0.-

firstly, id like to say, i really like the candles.... the flames on them are good.
if you ask me the hand looks a little strage, might just be me, i have majorly defromed hands, so i probably just draw them funny myself anyways....
and the eyes to the left looks a lil iffy too...
but apart from that, this is really a great picture! youve drawn the shirt and hair and the way they fold and fall very very well.
and i can see a tonne of detail on them there lips of his.
^^ hope you drop by sometime soon!

Kia @ Thursday, November 17th 2005, 12:49 PM
Thank you for the comment. I agree, with you on the hand comment. I redrew it three or four times. I was pleased with the first one I drew, but I didn't listen to my gut and I erased it, and boom. Hah. Got this funky hand so I gave up. I think it should of been turned a bit more. The thumb should be hidden not the pinky but. =x I'll remember that next time.

mazilwolf @ Thursday, November 17th 2005, 2:28 PM
yeah, that'd be it!! alsooo, i think the fingers might be a tad too thin, but like i said before, my hands are no model to go by......

Arisu @ Thursday, November 17th 2005, 5:34 PM
Hey! Thanks for all the comments. That really made my day. :D Aaand one for you!

If this is the style you're talking about then it is -definitely- not above your level. Haha. This is a really nice character, I could tell he was a vampire just from his face and before reading your comment. I love the eyes. Detailed cloth folds, great shading, nice colored lines that makes everything blend, awesome. His expression is like "I am better than everyone in this room" haha. :D

I say challenge yourself. Use the style you like best, even if it's the hardest/most time consuming. If you practice it you -will- improve and draw faster but with the same awesome quality.

Even if you're better at other styles, go with the one you like best because that's the one you want to get good at, right? Love your own art. :P

Pooky @ Thursday, November 17th 2005, 8:58 PM
I think this looks really cool.
The character looks very nice. I like his hair and the expression on his face. The folds in his shirt look pretty good.
As for the hand, It looks a little strange. I think it's because the fingers are a little too thin. I think it would look better if there was a little more shading, so we could see that the wrist is a little inclined towards us.
I wonder what is the blue thing behind him...

I like the coffin, and I love the 2 candkes. They looks really good.
The only thing that bothers me in the backgound is that we can't see a difference between the floor and the wall. It kinda makes it look like the the character is just standing in front of a wall, and that the coffin is some sort of thing attatched to the wall.

If you like drawing like this, well, you should just continue to do it. You'll quickly be able to do it faster and better. The most important thing is that you have fun... ain't that what drawing is for? ;)

Pooky Im glad you brought that up about the backround. I wasn't sure where to seperate the wall from the floor, or how. I did try once and only once and it looked a bit awkward. If anyone can tell me how to work that sort of thing it'd be much a appreciated. And thank you for your comments you guys.

Skittles-chan @ Saturday, November 19th 2005, 12:37 PM
Along with the other comments, I'd like to tell you to just draw whatever you like best. Art isn't (supposed to be) about fads, or impressing other people. It's about SELF-expression, and if anyone tries to tell you it's lame, remind them of that lady who made way too much money for her "unmade bed" exhibit.
Anyhow, I really love the way this presents itself. The pale colours, especially the ones you used to shade, and the way his hair falls, and his expression =3 I really like this. The -only- thing that's off to me is his hand, and I've tried drawing similar things to this, and I know that the hand holding the winde is like the hardest part, but practice does make perfect. Keep at it

AnimeCanuck @ Monday, November 14th 2005, 3:09 PM
I like the use (or... non-use) of colours here. Very nice detail on some things. It has a nice feeling to it. (the picture)

Shakaku @ Monday, November 14th 2005, 7:22 PM
Great use of brown earth tones. Looks lovely. great use of contrast. Making a form without lines can be difficult but this sure does look great. My only problem would be the extreme tilt of the boat, with such calm waters in the background. Other than that this is great. He even has an adorable expression!

Pooky @ Monday, November 14th 2005, 8:22 PM
It looks really great! ^^
The colors give a feeling of calm, yet it's a little disturbed by the tilt of the boat. =/
The boy's face is very lovely. I like his eyes a lot.

olsie @ Wednesday, November 16th 2005, 11:33 AM
Calm atmosphere and no blackness.. dreary! awesome overall outcome; I love it =)

Kia @ Thursday, November 17th 2005, 8:39 AM
Ok, I REALLY like this peice of art because I am fond of ships and the ocean and all that. (Despite never having been on a ship or boat, or the sea I should say. Id like to do it sometime.)
The boat was really nicely done, considering you have no..black linart to kind of follow. Some people try this and just you know..you cant tell what things are but with this you can and I really like it. I love the boat and the nets in the back.
Besides all taht I love the backround and the calm sea. It is cloudy but calm and I really like that.
The boy himself, I love his hair, how its just one plain color, no highlights or shading in it. (Ive always liked when people do that.)
His hat was a ncie touch and I love his eyes and expression.
His clothing is nicely shaded as well although, on his left arm (facing the picture) the sleeve looks really loose. Then you go to his right arm and it looks a little tight because it doesnt quite hang down or have any folds showing that same loose affect.
Other than that however, I love this peice quite a bit. Again great setting. Love it.

Shakaku @ Monday, November 14th 2005, 7:23 PM
I love the softness over all of this picture- and also the cuteness! Very cute.

Kia @ Thursday, November 17th 2005, 8:45 AM
Aw. He is just adorable!
First off, typically, I am not a blue person though recently I find myself enjoying it more, and using it more. So I find myself liking the choice of colors quite a bit in this picture.
I really have to say how much I love his hair. I love hair that kind of just sticks up all over the place, but the person still has bangs. I have a thing for bangs.
Not only that, I really admire the way you highlight the hair, and shade it as well. It's very nice.
I also love his clothing. I love the way loose fitting clothing looks, because I love folds to death. So I love the folds coming down from his waist despite the slight shake of the linart.
I love the coloring on his read sleeve, and the jewls on his chest. I always love to see red jewels on characters, they are simply nice, if shades and highlighted correctly.
The lolly pop looks simply delicious, haha, it is making my hungry. Makes me think of these..er.. vanilla strawberry things my mom used to give me. I dont remember what they were called. They were good though. Anyway.
Above all I think I love his hands the most. I adore them. They are so small and cute.

Argpoodle and 'Rena have a jolly little dance in the very same outfits that my boyfriend and I will be sporting at the Renaissance Festival this weekend in the Plantersville, TX area.
Yes, even the hat. I made the Argpoodle hat, and he will be wearing it.
And I'll be sure to link pictures when we return.

And 'Rena is wearing her hat of disguise, making her appear as a white elf, which is easier on me since I couldn't find decent grease paint to be a drow at the faire. Yay for disguise!

Skittles-chan @ Friday, November 11th 2005, 12:33 PM
The boy's hat is really cute, with the lil dangley thing and weird shape and all, and I like the lil designs on his pants =3 Rena's outfit is nice too, sort of gypsy-esque without the colour. A few things stick out as awkard to me. Rena's hand the one with the bracelet) seems just a little shapeless. Also, her arm and the gesture seem a little awkward, especially for them to be dancing. Maybe if he were holding onto her finger or something like that? Anyway, her head also seems disproportionately large. Other than that, everything's great. The details (especially on the boy's hat =3) are great, and I like the shading. The stars are really pretty too =3

Also, thanks for pointing out the arm, I noticed 'Rena's head was huge but I didn't notice her arm was awkward. I guess it's because I drew this at work with the bezier tool and a mouse...ugh.

I like the texture on the guy's pants, it looks pretty neat. And I like the sleeves on his shirt too, with the details arond them.

I like the girl's hair, and the folds in her dress look good.

The background is pretty amazing. The sky with all those stars is sooo beautiful.... =3

Argpoodles hat is just tooooo great. I love it. It is so unique and all.
Your coloring is really nice too.
I love the clothing designs and color choice for the designs.
The backround is also very nice, I love the trees in the backrond and how the grass gets dark the farther back. It is detail like that that draws me in. I also love the detail paid to the stars. No one star is the same =3

gah x_o; I just noticed that, myuness thank you for pointing that out to me I shall work on the coloring and anatomy ^^;;

Jaibyrd @ Wednesday, November 2nd 2005, 8:57 PM
Not bad for being sick man! Her thigh is a bit strange, but you have a great command of bodies overall. Hope you feel better soon!

Arisu @ Tuesday, November 8th 2005, 5:56 PM
Ooh this is really pretty. The wings are really nice and detailed- like how the one in the back is more open than the one in the front. Love stuff like that. I like the pose a lot, and your anatomy is actually pretty good.
The only thing wrong with the thigh is that you have the wrong part of the leg on top. The calf should be in front of the thigh (if one is in front at all). I think you realized it and drew the extra line to show where the calf would be, but leg skin cant fold like that, so it throws the drawing off a bit.
But hey, great stuff!

Pooky @ Thursday, November 10th 2005, 9:32 PM
Aaah, the coloring is pretty neat now.
Her face is really cute. And the wings are so pretty!

Skittles-chan @ Friday, November 11th 2005, 12:50 PM
The shape is alright, excpt for the thigh/buttocks area. Keep in mind when drawing females that it's usually -all- curves, all roundness. There's still a few areas where the colour's coming out of the lines, but it's fairly neat. I really like the design of her outfit, and the detail in her face looks really great, but some shading would seriously improve this piece.

Pooky @ Sunday, November 13th 2005, 1:21 PM
Aaah, I see you added some shading. And the thight looks really better now. But I just realized that she has pretty long legs.... she could be a model. XP

Kia @ Friday, November 18th 2005, 11:01 AM
I think this looks very nice. I like here outfit. Pretty revealing but, cute all the same. The pose is nice, I don't know much about female anatomy. (I dont know much about male anatomy either) But it seems like everyones pretty much covered that area anyway. =D Oh oha nd I like the wings too by the way they are very lovely. A very nicecolor too. ^.^

Jennifer, The Blue Narian @ Saturday, November 19th 2005, 4:43 PM
Nicey done. Good start with the anatomy. Don't worry to much about her thigh. It take alot of practice sometimes to get these things right. You'll get it next time!

And special coodos for useing tones! Don't see that often.

My only problem with it is that white around the figure. It's just a personal taste so you can ignore it. I just like it that if white is left that it's an even uniform outline.

Skittles-chan @ Friday, December 9th 2005, 7:31 PM
This looks -so- much better from when I saw it last. The color seems to be in the lines for the most part. I really hope you can see a big difference too =3

I really like how you did that outfit. It looks really amazing. I like the spider web detailing.

I like the 2 dragons... they're so beautiful. I need one of those. =3
As for the background, it's just so simple, but really cool. A full background would've been a little too much I think. With all that darkness around Ariel, we can see every detail of her really clearly.

Excellent work. =D

You drew Ariel so nicely.
I particularly love how the clothes came out. The spider webs in the white with the spider on the front is just too neat.
I also love how her hair came out too, oh and her ears. Oh how I adore her ears.
The eyes, well they are simply lovely, so focused. Her whole expression is.
Above all though, I love the dragons. You are a dragon genius, I already know it just from this picture and the one further up.
I love these dragons because they are so sleek and beautiful. Not only that, but they are that nice purple color, the same as her dress. I love it so much.
