Drowkaki was finally upgraded to Poteto 5.1 then to Wax Poteto. A much needed upgrade after so many years without change and with all these bugs plaguing us. We had to trash our custom MODS but it seem that wax poteto include some of the stuff we had. Avatar(go in your profile) and picture uploading. It also come with some new features as well. The most important one is to be able to re-touch everything, including SHI-PAINTER pictures , non animated oekaki and uploaded stuff. I'm sorry we didn't do this upgrade sooner. Now the board is pretty much lifeless, but i hope now that approving new accountsl became optional, that some life will return around here on this fantasy-only oekaki board.

thought I would try out your challenge windy :) Sorry if the colors seem simular to yours.. didnt mean to. Just wanted to do odd colors.

Also about my last drawing, I got it finished but couldnt upload it. IF sumi or kern could please help me i got a screen cap saved of it. thanks.

Ok about this dude... he has no eyes, no ears but is a deadly hunter! running with his powerful legs he can run fast, ram his head into his pray and then slice them open with his powerful back foot claw. These creatures are hunters, meaning they want there pray alive. Even the young feed on each other! one female can have a litter of 20 at a time, but sadly only one survives each litter since the young hunt and eat each other. This way only the strongest survive.
If the mother is even hungery, she will eat her own young. They are anti social creatures who live alone. Its a deadly fight for even mating, if not done right they can end up killing each other.

The planet is so hot it is nothing but a waste land. The ground is made of a fungus which is a pure white in color looking like snow.

This guy so reminds me of stage 2 of the alien critters from the movie series Tremors.

Wonderful solid shading. Such a fleshy looking guy. ^_^

Tigerhawk @ Thursday, March 9th 2006, 8:24 PM
love the colors! i like the style you drew your critter in, looks great with how you did the background. Looks very smooth/slimy and slick.

windblade @ Sunday, March 12th 2006, 12:14 AM
Woah, thanks for following my theme! I like this critter, it's so... creepy and eeeevil. I really like its fleshy, muscular look, like it's just a pink mass of buldging evil!

Sumi @ Sunday, March 12th 2006, 1:42 AM
Dude, you know those robotic things that would attack you in the sewers on Ninja Turtles 2? .... Yeah!
I think I'm in love with its one clawed feet and fleshy purple gum. <3 Awesome work with the solids - we need more mary solids! >=D

Queen_Godzilla @ Monday, March 13th 2006, 1:56 PM
Dude, I'd never think that something PINK would be something evil, carnivorous and scary! Good selection on the color scheme! X3

I like the amount of detail you did in the folds here. It gives that thing a lot of detail and surface.

Annie Felis @ Monday, March 13th 2006, 7:52 PM
That's a great combination of cel shading and airbrushing. I like how you did little scribbles on the ice to make it look scored, and the guy's coloration. Purple + green mouth for the win.

Traditions_Chains @ Wednesday, March 15th 2006, 2:16 PM
this guy scares me alittle.. *whimpers and hides* I love the cotton candy pink though... and the shading is pretty nifty too!

The reign of the boobies has ended. D=
Fleshy claw bits! =D I love the textures so far... and that's just with the lineart! I think you should go ahead and use the colours that you chose. I've always had a soft spot for redheads. <3

Annie Felis @ Friday, March 3rd 2006, 6:04 PM
Awesome tutorial, and I like both ending images. Yes, I liked the little bug-eyed guy.

And while the How To Draw Manga books can help, honestly learning traditional drawing techniques for realism is the best route. Starting on realism and expanding from there is so much better than getting stuck in a rut by only drawing the way a book tells you.

freakymary @ Friday, March 3rd 2006, 7:22 PM
I didnt mean to go by what a book tells you, and you can tell obviously im not an anime or manga artist.

I ment was its basics on human shapes and tips are helpful. It actully goes for a realism style then a cartoon one. It just teaches how to draw the skeleton for start, on posing etc and how the body is shaped and moves.

Annie Felis @ Saturday, March 4th 2006, 12:11 AM
Well yeah, that's useful. It's just the bits like "Here's how to draw a girl jumping on a tramoline!" are not. XD

Kia @ Saturday, March 4th 2006, 1:02 AM
Thanks so much Mary! That was very helpful! I now need to go try for myself, and see if it all registered correctly. hehe :3

I love your unicorn gryphon thing. I cant wait to see it finished!

Prismatic @ Saturday, March 4th 2006, 1:49 AM
Wow that was so helpful! Thanks hun, I enjoyed the showhow, and also liked watching you color. Yeah.. I have to agree that your little bug eyed guy was cute~~
I really like the pose on your grifficorn and the colors are pretty. My favorite part is its back foot! It just looks so cute somehow. I don't know if it's just me but I think the horn might need to come forward a little bit, it doens't look quite like it's coming out of the center of its forhead.
I can't wait to see this finished! It's looking so good so far.

wow, been years since I drew in paintbbs. kind of rusty I must say XD SO i went with something simple.

The two puppies are my little ones :) the brown fuzzy one is cinnamon, the other is Laylah. They are both about 8 months old and are sisters. I love them both very much ^_^ and yes.. laylahs ears stick out like that XD looks like she is flying.

Not sure if anyone remebers, but over a year ago I lost a preciouse dog to me, baby. I had a hard time losing her and still do miss her. But the news is, laylah here is the neice to baby. So its like i still have a part of her with me now, and laylah is so much like baby in looks and attitude. Though she can never replace her, im glad to have gotten her and cinnamon.

Heya, Mary. :) Good to see this place going again, maybe I'll send something in... X3 THIS, however, is VERY cute. I do remember that time, and I'm glad to hear you got these two. They look adorable in the picture, especially flying-puppy. The tongues are a nice touch, and I like the purple outline about the hair most. Nice to see your art again!

Ven @ Friday, February 17th 2006, 3:56 AM
I think it's cute
blood works best when I draw it with a vivid red and then place a darker shade closer to the center. But yeah,
I love the knee divit where the tire print is

mazilwolf @ Friday, February 17th 2006, 4:24 AM
awwww, poor lil thing... ;_;
i love her wings, clothes and hair, she was so pretty!
if i could suggest one thing it would be to make the tye marks with a pattern, like you get in wheels, just so you can clearly tell what they are.
but thats not really important! this picture rules anyway!

freakymary @ Friday, February 17th 2006, 10:17 AM
hehe thanks all for the comments :)

about the tire marks, I had a mark like a tire on her but it toke to much away from the picture. since it covered most of her body etc. hmm could be bike tire marks? XD

Sumi @ Wednesday, February 15th 2006, 10:09 PM
I'm not quite sure what mood you wanted to get, but honestly I really get creeped out by this. XD I can put myself in the picture hiding from a giant monster that's trying to eat me.... yeah, I've been playing too much Shadow of the Colossus.
Beautiful textures, from the fur to the zomgs<3 mossy rocks. The background adds perfectly to the ominous haze that's settled over the mushroom silouettes. Not your usual style, but I'm lovin' it like mad. =D

Jennifer, The Blue Narian @ Thursday, February 16th 2006, 2:35 AM

You know, one of these days I may just make my triumphant return to the board. lol Good to see you Mary. You'll always be one of those artists I don't need to see a name to know who it is. lol I like the pose to this dragon, it's very fluid, and this particular dragon looks like a blend of reptile and feline. Which I love. I really love the profile of the face like that, the slightly bowed muzzle, showing where the eye ridge would be...very nice. The really blurred bits of tree in the foreground really give this a nice sense of depth. The only nitpick I can give you at this point is the sheer lack of background. Yeah...I'm one to talk about backgrounds I know. lol But having the wings such a light shade of grey, with all that white surrounding this dragon really washes this whole image out. But background issues aside, it's awesome to see that you're still doing a little oekaki. YAAAAAAY MARY! lol

Thanks toten for uploading this :)

I drew this a few days ago actully, but just now had toten upload it. It was supposed to be a female looking dragon, but some of the features remined me of a horse.

also please i ask dont point out the front leg that is bent. Ive had enough people at SA and on AIM tell me its bent wrong, looks odd or out of place. its leg are not based on a horse, i want to make that clear.

(Edited on January 18, 2005, 6:01 am)

darkrose @ Tuesday, January 18th 2005, 6:13 AM
OK, so no comments on the leg thing. Still, this is a BEAUTIFUL image. The colors are so soft and vibrant, the details so perfectly in place. The dragon-horse-thing looks perfectly at home in this environment, very calm and peaceful and so free. Lovely work, freakymary! Welcome back!

KHatch @ Tuesday, January 18th 2005, 8:51 AM
I love this a lot! So pretty and smooth.
While I can see the horse and the dragon in this beast, I also see human. The way the front legs are done is, to me, reminescent of the thighs of a humanoid. That's what I see. It didn't bother me at all, I think it's great!
I really like the serene face and the flowing gorgeous hair. More arts, freakymary! I loves your stuff.

Wow, there is a lot of detail here. Wonderful. The hair is great and so it the anatomy (very accurate). I have mentioned this before but I really like the blur background effect because it really gives the feeling of depth. Very pretty and very magical.

Kage Kitsune @ Thursday, January 20th 2005, 1:26 AM
This is awesome! I love the dragon/unicorn's face the most, the eye is wonderful and the hair aww the hair ::pets it:: the background is kind of vage and fits in with the mist and everything ^_^

Chime @ Thursday, January 20th 2005, 3:34 PM
Ahh, another one of Mary's creations. As always, the style is wonderful. The water seems a bit strange, like a wave is about to loom over the "dragon" . The reast of the backgground, however, is wonderful - your trademark taxture-use is lovely ^^
The shading on the body is great, but the hair draws the attention away. It looks slightly out-of-place here, but still, Wonderful work ^^

Kaede @ Saturday, January 22nd 2005, 1:00 AM
You are so amazing Mary. This is awesome. I love your color choices, and then your coloring itself is amazing. The horse-dragons eye is just beautiful. I really love that backround too, the water is awesome! =D

Crest @ Saturday, January 22nd 2005, 8:49 PM
That thing is so cool looking. I want one. XD The background is really nicely drawn...love the grass and the rocks. Nifty creature. :D

Jennifer @ Saturday, January 22nd 2005, 8:59 PM
This is so very beautiful. I love how she stands out from the background. Her eye and facial features remind me of the Last Unicorn. She has such beauty and grace. I am in love with your background.

Shakaku @ Monday, January 24th 2005, 9:17 PM
Beautiful setting and beautiful creature! Smooth and gentle shading. It's awesome. I know you said that people keep sayimng the front -leg- is wrong, but I also realize that yeah, it's suppose to be that way. I think whay confuses peple is the fact the way the paw curls under. not really the leg itself. Also the front legs have slightly thicker shading which draws your eyes to them. The anotomy is very well done and the over all look is excellent

Queen_Godzilla @ Tuesday, March 1st 2005, 9:16 PM
Hey Mary.

First of all -- the background is quite lovely. I believe your usage of textured brushes for the landscape was excellent. It really brings out the textures present in nature of such objects. Hoorah!

The dragon is really lovely too. Unique design for something, having two sets of backlegs.

As for the legs -- I think it's not the arms per se that throw it off -- I think it's the shoulders and the way the arms stand with it. I honestly don't know how to move that shoulder, but I think that's the problem; that's where I'm getting that artist vibe.

just a little pic for kern :) a little drow girl getting on to the worm for eating the board lol. sorry to hear though the board got attacked by a worm 0_0 im just glad you got it all back up and running, and didnt lose anything more then what you did. its sad it happened though.

AnimeCanuck @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 2:07 AM
Hehe. I like the way you incorporated the website into the picture, as well as the binary. I like how her outfit is so shiny.

That is a LARGE eye. I guess to compete with my large chin?

freakymary @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 2:09 AM
large chin 0_o huh? sorry but i dont know what your talking about. the eye is large for i draw eyes when i draw somthing chibi like.

YourNuubGod @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 2:44 AM
Ooh, that's cute and evil. I think she should be about ready to smash that evil worm in. Grawr!

I love the colors, and her dress is awsome.

Rigga Mortis @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 2:49 AM
Your worm rocks, despite it being evil. >O This is adorable, Freakymary. I love the chibi's sweet expression and her sparkly-pretty robe, the pose she's sitting in and the way you shaded her skin, mostly on her hands. The worm's mouth and eyes are my favourite part of it, next to the colours you chose. The background is quite creative, all the bit-marks with the code and the navigation bar at the top...very cool. :D

Skittles-chan @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 2:52 AM
The background is really neat =3 It took me a minute to realise that the little binary bits arent just randomly floating globules, though. The worm is really cute ^^ I like how he looks kind of confused.

Lady_Sea @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 3:15 AM
Now that is cute! Instead of using violence and anger, you used a kind reprimanding sort of theme ^_^. The expression on the worm is just adorable. That eye on her is big but it is a big cute eye and I like how her dress sparkles! I also like how you put the 0101coding in the background- it flows along with the eaten oekaki board theme. Nice nice!

catboi incubus mishi @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 3:30 AM
I have to complain about her eye - it's awfully huge. o __x; Other than that, I love this image, the worm is really cute, and I like how you incorporated the page into the image. The drow looks more curious about the worm than scolding. O:

celestial crou @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 3:49 AM
pretty ness!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like the worm best i think. The girl has HUGE eyes and i dont really care for that. The worm is in its smooth curlieness which is done wonderfully. The BG is interesting with the benary code (i think thats what its called) and the options bar on top. I would have liked to have seen more complementary colors.

Totenmaske @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 4:16 AM
This is an adorable interpretation of what happened Freakymary! Like most of your past work that was on the board before the great big hungry worm incident ? shows the playfulness of your style as well as the wonderful details you seem to have put into everything you do. The character designs are extremely cute, though in the sense of Ariel a little disturbing in the overly large eye aspect. Like most who have commented ? I personally adore the look of the worm, the little disturbing brown warts on his body are a nice touch ? though personally they come across rather dirt like. Mainly because it seems like he has a little bit of ?board dirt? on the side of his mouth.

But before I continue, I personally love the way you have the detail of the board toolbar, it seems perfectly spaced ? and frankly just adds that sense of quality to this image. The colouring is the other aspect that brings the image high marks, particularly in the sense of texturing in the dress of Ariel. That is something I always look for in your images, the special texturing ? and in this image it is enhanced with sparkling. The worm is flat, considering, but overall very well coloured and defined with the variation to create a sense of shadow and the sense of lighting. The teeth though on the worm and the little dot eyes just make the character.

The background is very impressive, I really love the whole idea of the coding running along underneath the board ? the bite marks are very cute and cartoon-like in aspect, though I think the sense of the shattering or broken glass effect you have seems out of place to me. It would have been best just to keep the bite marks, but overall it?s really nicely done. You have a rather large amount of blur effect in the background, which doesn?t rob from the overall image ? in the sense of the coding it adds to the overall effect.

Overall the playfulness makes this image exceptional. The colouring of Ariel btw is interesting, you give depth but you don?t truly individualize the fingers. Less detail work, but truly not missed in the end. Oh and AnimeCanuck was talking about the chin in their image ;3 And I have to agree the eye is a little distracting, but the overall look of the characters is fantastic ? nice little shimmer to the eye btw.

Loki @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 4:36 AM
Haha! Too cute, I love the pose alot, and the whole concept. (quite a tragedy) I like how you colour with WC too, their so hard for me, so I worship you. <3

Darkrose @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 4:41 AM
Heh, I love it. I especially love how you've captured the spiders silk feel to the dress, with its texture and sparkle. That worm is SOOO cute! The little underbite is fantastic. Really adds to the 'big-dumb brute' look. I love how you've got that pose with Ariel down, and I just noticed the binary in the empty holes of drowkaki. Awesome work!

LunarMnM2004 @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 7:54 AM
Poke the wormy!!! ^_^ This is cute I like the way you colored her dress. All shinny!

HuntressD @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 8:02 AM
*hugs Mary* This is incredibly cute. Now, teach it to eat political websites. >_> That worm looks very funny. :D And the dress is shiny! Yay for shininess! :D

Jennifer @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 1:38 PM
She's so cute. That little drow girl will teach that bad old worm. I love their expressions. The worm look like he is regretting his destructive actions. The way she's smiling makes me think she is saying, "Now be a good boy from now on. No more destroying websites, okay? Good wormy."

Ikena @ Thursday, December 23rd 2004, 9:46 PM
awww! so adorable!
and the worm looks dorky yet cute! =3

Kern @ Friday, December 24th 2004, 3:19 AM
Thank you freakymary, this is very cute and nice for you. Well yes we did loss some things permanently, but the worst loss was the oekaki database. Even if we still have all the pictures in a folder, they're useless without the links....
*save pic*

Kern @ Friday, December 24th 2004, 3:21 AM
I forgot to comment about the background. that is very original. XD

Rasen @ Friday, December 24th 2004, 9:22 PM
Lol. This is a really novel idea. Admonishing the worm. XD I love the background here, as well as the almost puzzled expression on the worm's face when Ariel scolds it. XD

TigerHawk @ Monday, December 27th 2004, 1:44 AM
When I fist saw this, the worm looked like a disgruntled Snowager lol i had to read your comment before getting it. I think I had a blonde moment. The worm looks really cute. The drow's dress is fabulous. i want it ^^

Kari Maxwell @ Tuesday, December 28th 2004, 2:59 AM
-snort- Too cute. I like the worm there. lol I like how you did her dress. It's all shimmery. Yay.

Basil @ Thursday, December 30th 2004, 9:10 PM
You shouldnt have made the worm so blasted cute! XD Ah well, I really like how you put the top of the board into the picture! *Waves around a "We <3 FM' flag*

awww... hehe, how cute of an interpretation. you tell 'im.

Prismatic @ Friday, February 4th 2005, 4:35 AM
Wow, it's true. The worm is really precious. hehe. And as has been stated before, I really like how you incorporated the site into the picture.
Your drow girl is really cute! I don't get to see you do actual people too often. You did a really great job~
As always I love your shade job! You're so great at it. Her dress.. wow. So textured~
