Drowkaki was finally upgraded to Poteto 5.1 then to Wax Poteto. A much needed upgrade after so many years without change and with all these bugs plaguing us. We had to trash our custom MODS but it seem that wax poteto include some of the stuff we had. Avatar(go in your profile) and picture uploading. It also come with some new features as well. The most important one is to be able to re-touch everything, including SHI-PAINTER pictures , non animated oekaki and uploaded stuff. I'm sorry we didn't do this upgrade sooner. Now the board is pretty much lifeless, but i hope now that approving new accountsl became optional, that some life will return around here on this fantasy-only oekaki board.

Aven, friend of Hale, Riza and Elaiyne, and again a member of the same order as them. Picture Aven saying, "It's not my fault you have to stay here; you're too big to fit in the tunnel! You'd get stuck ten feet in."

I really love the horse. That is just to cool. Hair detail on the mane is really nice. Will comment more when finished

Prismatic @ Wednesday, June 15th 2005, 5:35 PM
Poor horse, being too big and all for the tunnel. Your textures and shading in this picture are wonderful!!! I can tell you put super lots of work into them.
The horse is soo good. The propotions on its head are great. And then the shading added to that makes it amazing. I really love its hair.
It's pretty nifty you've been doing pictures of people from your knight thingy. I like this one. He looks like a happy person. Very nice job on the hair and his expression. I like the little symbol on their cloak as well.
The soft background really makes the other parts pop out more. I love the grey soft sky, those days are my favorite. And the softness to the trees works well with this.~

Tigerhawk @ Friday, June 17th 2005, 12:15 PM
Same thing as my last comment and your background is really neat! I like how you made the trees, semi-realistic. Though your ground looks flat and it looks like there is no depth there. Your cave entrance is interesting. Is it glowing or is it "painted" purple? You did a really good job on this picture. Keep up the good work.

The Blue Sorceress @ Sunday, June 19th 2005, 12:39 AM
Tigerhawk: The entrance to the cave is outlined in glowing runes. They're too far to read, but they're a ward of some sort.

LunarMnM2004 @ Wednesday, June 22nd 2005, 7:10 PM
Neat I like the horses face... the guys pretty cool too. Who needs to go get a hair cut.. get one from your horse for free! ^_^

Renmazuo @ Thursday, June 23rd 2005, 9:21 PM
A horse!And a really well drawn one too!This is so sweet and funny, and the background is coloured really well, i'm envious;^;

Tigerhawk @ Friday, June 24th 2005, 4:33 PM
Ah! Ok thanks Bluey! (don't shoot me if you don't like the nickname)

Segzhan @ Monday, July 4th 2005, 10:04 PM
Eeeps! The texture on the horse feels so real!

I love it! o.o

Yep, another member of the knightly order that Hale and Riza belong too. Elaiyne here is doing a little nighttime reading. She's wearing her badge of rank over her left breast. It's a little hard to tell because of the glare from her little light, but she's a Third Sword, which means she's not very highly ranked and not one of the order's better combatants. However, she's also a member of another order of bards ands mages dedicated to the same goddess, so she's nothing to sneeze at during a fight.

Arisu @ Wednesday, June 8th 2005, 8:25 PM
This is definitely my favorite out of all your pictures. The way you used yellow highlighting is really nice, especially on the face.

mazilwolf @ Saturday, June 11th 2005, 3:13 AM
you know, i really really like the way the yellow glow works with the whole picture, like, is she reading by candlelight or something? hey lookie! its even in her eyes a bit too ^-^ heehehe!

Little Elf @ Saturday, June 11th 2005, 10:27 PM
Detailed hair is great, ne? I love her hair! The glow looks really good, and that looks like a really complicated book. Her eyes are very pretty also.

The Blue Sorceress @ Sunday, June 12th 2005, 12:11 AM
Mazilwolf: She's reading by the light of the little glowy orb she made.

mazilwolf @ Sunday, June 12th 2005, 6:20 AM
ohhh, glowy orbs! i like that!!! will she make one for me? ^___^

Riza\'s is a half-elf and a member of the same order as Hale. Her hair\'s not usually this long. One of the handy things aout having a friend that\'s a mage is she can play around with things like hair-length and color for fun.

Currently she's in the order's communal bath, probably getting ready for a long soak in the nice hot water, since she has her tunic untucked and has ditched her tabard and insignia.

I really like it so far, ecpecially the hair, it kinda looks like i can touch itO_O
And the expression is so calm and nice, i'm really curious to see this finished!

Arisu @ Sunday, June 5th 2005, 8:46 PM
Heh, I've always had a thing for borders. I like how this one stands out from the picture. That character is nicely done. I can't believe you watercolored every strand of hair. :o Kudos. And you have 1px watercolor lines to boot. That stuff is majorly time consuming. So Kudos for that as well. Nice detailed tiling. It's always hard for me to get the perspective on things like tiles just right. You did a nice job with that though. And it looks like you shaded almost every square individually. That's crazy. Way to go. o_o;

The Blue Sorceress @ Wednesday, June 8th 2005, 10:08 AM
Arisu: I only shaded the tiles in the foreground indivitdually. The ones in the back were just too small. I don\'t know when I started watercoloring with a 1x brush for hait, I just found it got a look closer to what I do when I\'m working with colored pencils. It is time consuming, but it\'s worth the effort, I think. I had one picture here, before the boards got messed up, that turned out even better in that department. Thanks a ton! ^________^

Tigerhawk @ Friday, June 10th 2005, 11:13 PM
Dang!! I love the details with the tiles! The tiles are awesome! I like the tiles. And I like the red-head chick too, because she's a red-head. We must populate the world with more red-heads! We're dying! *cough* I love the way you color, so spiffy. the detail on her hair is very very niffty. I like very much.

Little Elf @ Saturday, June 11th 2005, 10:12 PM
Do is see water? XD It looks very nice. I think her hair shouldn't be so straight falling over her arm. It's very detailed though. The tiles ARE nicely done, and yes, I love her red hair. XD I'm a sucker for redheads. Her shirt is pretty too, and the border is nice.

Finished! Hale\\\'s birdy friend is his a celestial companion granted to members of his knightly order by his goddess. Part of her symbol is a golden-colored raven with bright blue eyes, thus Hale has this unusual looking raven joining him on quests and what not.

*I went back and added some texture to the bird's feathers and feet as well as his beak to make him a little more 3D. I tried to get the feet to have a 'pebbly' look. I'm always amazed how much a bird's feet remind me of a dinosaur's scales.

Toten: Last time I checked no bright golden ravens with blue eyes existed anywhere but in my head, and that critter on the guy\'s shoulder isn\'t a canary. Likewise, the last guy had bright red eyes and horns, also not things you\'re going to see in nature. I realize I didn\'t add in a large background, but I was purposefully doing a series of portraits of some characters of mine. No, none of them have grossly obvious fantasy elements, nor does their world, but fantasy doesn\'t mean elf ears or dragons or even a vastly different world. I\'m also curious as to why you chose to single me out, since at least two recent posts wouldn\'t be \"fantasy\" in the way you define it without the text of the comment post that goes along with it. How are my pictures less \'fantasy\' than those others?

I don\'t think you\'re being rude, but I am a little curious as to why, if by the standards you\'ve set, my pictures don\'t fit in the genre of fantasy, why other pictures that don\'t fit those standards haven\'t recieved similar comments.

Totenmaske @ Wednesday, June 1st 2005, 1:41 AM
When I originally made my first comment I was pointing out the fact that the close-up effect of the canvas centering upon the character?s facial characteristics did not truly bring out the details of fantasy in your images ? consigning your work to such a limited view does this. And technically you did not mention that it would be a golden raven ? if you did I apologize. Now that it is finished and the bird is a golden raven it is fantasy. I personally don?t believe fantasy is limited to elves, faeries, etc ? to limit oneself to such a concept would to deprive you of taking a chance in creativity. That being said I tend to point out these type of issues when an image falls into the category of not being ?fantasy? to some extents I request that something is added to an image to make it so. These rules are not something I concocted ? though maybe I could have if I took the right amount of illegal substances while I was eating breakfast long ago? I recently returned to the board, and when I get to the images that do not ?fall under fantasy? I will comment upon them in such a manner. I don?t normally single people out (stalking situations are excluded in this remark) your image was the first I got to comment upon, since returning to the board and after going through view pending.

The fact of the matter is, if the image has issues I will point them out ? be it thematically questionable or otherwise. That being said the way you concentrate your portraits so close tends to bug me because really portraits can show more; the details of the clothing they are wearing, the look of their hair, what kind of ears they have (if you really want to go the elf route), or the environment they reside in. That being said ? time to move on to the actual comment on this image that you have presented to us:

To be truthful I really love how you have added such nice details to your character Hale?s face ? the stubble was a really nice touch and the shadows along the left side of the face (right on the canvas) really bring out a nice sense of lighting. I think if you used a little smoother line work for the details of the face though could add to the image. The hair is nice in the way you captured the sense of individual hairs ? you could have added highlights to help pick up the sense of lighting in the image but it still seems very suitable.

The issue I do have though with the image is the look of the raven; personally it would have been interesting to see individual feathers or some sense of texturing. The beak seems to need something; maybe if you added a sense of shadows playing upon it would help in the sense of added a sense of depth to that portion of the image. I think that is the only other partial issue I truly have with the image, the raven just seems to be flat compared to the details you put into Hale?s face ? this could be the fact that the raven is a celestial being ? and you were showing this by creating the sense that it glows with an inner light.

The background of the image is interesting, simply because of the nice mixture of colours we have going on. It almost appears to be a cyclone of fire. Overall the image is very pleasing ? though like I have said above, it just seems to be limited by such a close confined area.

I have included my original comment below.

(Original Comment below)
I really hate to say this Blue, but recently your work seems to concentrate upon close-ups of a character. It really doesn't seem to delve into capturing a fantasy aspect to the overall image in the end. I personally would like to know how this is fantasy. Maybe if we saw more of the character as well as the setting I would understand. I don't mean to be rude, because I do like the way you are concentrating on the facial detailing in your work. I just feel you need to pull the 'camera' back a little if you know what I mean? Bring details of the world where these characters reside.

Right-o. Sorry if I sounded snappish myself. I probably focus on faces more than other stuff simply because I'm more comfortable using my mouse to draw them since I've been working on them with pencil and paper for a while and have gotten things down fairly well. I'm still hacking out the rest of the humanoid anatomy. Partly i also like to get the small details of a face into a picture without using an enourmous canvas. You're right that the hair could use some highlighing... I must have forgotten that. And the bird does need more work on the beak area. Feather details are much harder though... I'll work on it. That's one of the thing I like about Oekaki... you can alter your image to improve it much more easily than you can a drawing with colored pencils (my usual medium of choice) . Anyway, my next picture will have more of the character's body in it.

Prismatic @ Wednesday, June 15th 2005, 5:01 PM
The bird is quiet lovely. I'm glad you went in and added more details to it. You somehow even captured a look of I don't know.. maybe adoration on its face. I suppose celestial creatures are supposed to be intelligent and this one definalty hints at such. I especially love its little feet. Sooo cute.
I like the angle in which you composed the guys face. I usually am not good at such angles, the nose always throws me off. But you did a really good job on his nose. And his facial hair is fantastic~ As well as his hair for that matter. Nice choice for his skintone as well. Oh! And the colorful background is really pretty~

My last picture was a disaster, so I deleted it and started again with a different size canvas and a better idea of what I wanted to do. It's the same guy, a few years older. I decided on a slightly different style. I'm more or less happy with how this came out, but any advice on things I could improve is more than welcome.

Maybe his face is a bit too long, i'm talking about the sone that goes from the top of the nose to the chin...but that could be just meXD
I really like how you color, you have a really painterly style, wich is kinda hard to achieve with oekaki, at least for meO_o

The Blue Sorceress @ Friday, May 27th 2005, 1:58 AM
Renmauzou: You are right, now that I am looking at it. He is supposed to have a pretty long face, but it does look like a bit much now that I am not in the middle of drawing it. Thanks for commenting :)

Segzhan @ Friday, May 27th 2005, 12:19 PM
Hey, nice one! I like your coloring a lot!

Chinh @ Wednesday, June 1st 2005, 11:07 AM
I like the way you draw faces and the eyes looks awsome, and the shadings looks great, but I think you should practice some more on the lineart...
and I know I used to do this before too...use antialias to make the lineart look a lil better...but I still think it would look a lot better if you try to spend more time on the lineart and not rush through it...and since you use the animated version you can re-touch and stuff....all about patience I guess...you're doing a great job, so keep up the good work ;)
