Drowkaki was finally upgraded to Poteto 5.1 then to Wax Poteto. A much needed upgrade after so many years without change and with all these bugs plaguing us. We had to trash our custom MODS but it seem that wax poteto include some of the stuff we had. Avatar(go in your profile) and picture uploading. It also come with some new features as well. The most important one is to be able to re-touch everything, including SHI-PAINTER pictures , non animated oekaki and uploaded stuff. I'm sorry we didn't do this upgrade sooner. Now the board is pretty much lifeless, but i hope now that approving new accountsl became optional, that some life will return around here on this fantasy-only oekaki board.

ehhg. I haven't drawn here in a while. This is a horrible drawing.

But, I was in a bit of a hurry. Im very, very tired. I have to ask something though. And I thought Drow has so, so many talented artists, that I should ask here.

I'm having big problems with male anatomy. I've looked up tutorials, I've bought books. I've bought 'How To Draw Manga 'Male Characters' but nothing is helping me I dont feel.

I've even tried watching oekaki animations, to see if it'd help me. But most people who /are/ good with the male anatomy and have it down, don't need to start with a basic skeleton structure because they already know what theya re doing, so It doesn't help me that way.

I was wondering if someone, if they have the time, could help me by doing a little tutorial thing for me. I'd appreciate it ALOT. Mary's breast tutorial, helped me /alot/ so I figure it's worth asking again when I need help.

If someone does this for me, Ill be like, so dead grateful .x_x; Looove I will. For ever. If not I understand. :3 But it'd be appreciate it. I need help mucho much. As you can proably tell from this drawing some what.xD I disguised the body so you cann see how horrible it is.

Okay anyways, he's very pretty! I think his hiar made me think girl. Ah...*is still embarassed* That's a really lovely purple, and just how you colored only hsi face is a nice touch. It adds...something that I can't quite explain. (and no that's not a bad thing) I can almost imagine his body with that purple...is that strange? I love your picture, it's so simple and elegant, even if you doubt your talent with male anatomy. =3

This has a very nice styalised graphic feel to it. I like the contrast between the shaded and detailed face and the flat body. The lips are especialy nice.

dorothyblueeyes @ Thursday, October 5th 2006, 5:55 AM
Very nice, I like the coloring too. Men are usually heavier and broader in the uipper part of their body;they are much narrower lower down. So,a good beginning rule in drawing men,is to look at their shoulders, and pectorals, and figure just how broad they are. It is one of the main differnces between men and women;women';s center of gravity is in their hips, bottom; men[s center of gravity is in the shoulders and chest. Women even like activities where they sit down.Men do not like that, they prefer standing, and doing action activities, cause they do not like long periods of time, sitting in a chair. This will give you some hints, as to how you draw them, in what activities.

I decided I wanted to try the alien thingy, so I sat around during math, thinking up an alien..thingy. Har. Came up with this. Don't know how impressive it is, but it was fun all the same. I don't normally get so creative. I usually stay in the human world. Haha. So it was fun. My friend told me to name it Aegoric, so I did. Mwah. I'm still trying to figure it out. I know it injects a poison into the body of it's prey and then feeds off it's insides with it's long tongue. It uses it's claws to rip at it's prey too. The females and males are attached to one snake like body. Males have the spikes, females don't. Ok crap. I stink at this alien stuff. *sobs*

I can't see the practicality of having a species that constantly has to have incest to survive, but, uh, other than that the character design is wonderful.

I like the sketchiness of the purple lines. It makes it look like it was done with pencils and whatnot. That probiscus is scary, though... o_O

Urg. Ive never done a pose like this before. I dont know how well I did with it either. I wasnt gonna send but despite all my possible mistakes Im really happy with it. I need to figure out a background now though, any suggestions?

Ook. Well. I really liked Mary\'s idea of Jan laying on a table or desk, ontop of maps. I\'m a little shaky though, unsure. I don\'t normally attempt backgrounds, or objects such as tables or chairs..walls..anything like that. Im not quite sure if I did this right, so far and Im confused on where to even begin shading a table. Im thinking maybe I should use the water color tool, but I messed up the layers pretty bad, so i cant. UGH. *stuffs head in blender*
I also took Ikena\'s advice and lowered the hair line. I hope it looks better now. :3

That's REALLY cute. Her face is just adorable, coy and sort of knowing... I like the eyes and the lips are perfect. The nose seems to detract a little, but it also fits with the style. The lack of outline around her hair makes her face stand out all the more. Excellent folding on her shirt, I like what she is wearing.

She looks like she could be stretching or something. Perhaps a study or something behind her--getting up from reading.

freakymary @ Saturday, March 4th 2006, 6:45 AM
Your welcome on the tutorial ^__^ and it seemed It must of helped XD I did something right! lol

really though, GREAT pose! the position of the breast and arms is perfect. I like how you did the shirt also :) with the black tight skirt im going to guess it is?

She looks like to me, she could be laying down on her back on a bed of some sort. The hair seems to me like its laid on something :) so perhaps she can be laying on a bed, a table even with pirate maps around her/under her ;) no no shes not being naughty! lol

I really do love your style though :) the eyes and lips are so pretty, please do finish soon!

Ikena @ Saturday, March 4th 2006, 4:06 PM
Well I think its pretty good for being the first time trying the pose =3
The only thing that stands out to me is that her hairline its waaay to up, (i mean if she tied her hair back she would have lots of forehead) other than that i like it a lot, specially her eyes =3

BG, hmm..? well... what about a lake with weeping willows and such? =P

freakymary @ Sunday, March 5th 2006, 7:18 PM
hm well it looks as if the shadow on her is coming from behind her head somwere? so perhaps there is a candle up there on the table we cant see.. as for shading the table, solids or water colors would look great with this. make shadows under her arms coming out, as if there is a candle up there somwere XD im sure it will look great however you do this.

windblade @ Monday, March 6th 2006, 9:26 AM
My only complain is that, while the shading on her face is truly delicious, there s no shading on the table/desk she's laying on. If it's not finished yet, then forget about my complain and just remember the bit about the delicious shading.

Not that I know what shading tastes like.

Sumi @ Tuesday, March 7th 2006, 2:07 PM
If you need help with shading the desk try following your original lightsource and looking up refs of wood textures.
Even without shading I knew this was a desk as soon as I saw that pulled out drawer. =D Too clever. Jan is such a cute redhead. I was doing a fanart of her for you, but my net crapped out.

I love rhyming Jans name with stoof. i r uh gud speler. Ahem. :D Anyway. This is my pirate girl Jan. I like practicing the female anatomy with her cause shes so feminine. She wears such tight fitting stuf and what not. Its like..cha. Shes so vicious looking to me. I love drawing her.

Anatomy wise, I know everything is really off. Especially the waist. xD You dont have to tell me how sucked in it looks. I know I know.

Over all I love how this came out though. Despite the many anatomy mistakes i\'ve made and my usual issue with drawing breasts too low, Im happy with this. It just kind of shows Jan. It presents her the way Id like her to come off sometimes.

Does anyone have advice for the breasts though? I\'m constantly being told I draw them too low and if anyone has any tips on how to help me place them just right next time, Id greatly appreciate it. :D

Thanks guys.-kia

Great drawing here :) i lov your style! such smooth coloring and lines. the hair is simple yet poofy and wavy ^_^ i really like your charecter jan looks like she has attitude!

about you want tips for the breast/chest area. I can try to help, but this is just my tips on how i draw females etc.

When drawing the skeleton/sketch for the body. The breast, no matter the size (unless you mean for them to sag) always are even with the armpit/under the shoulder area. You have them in the right place, but to long wise, the bottom should of been up higher just a little, really though you did good with this since shes turned at a angle.

just remeber if the shoulders move up, so do the breast. if shes leaning forward, they hang down more. so best i can say is just think of were the shoulders go, as to what shape to give them. If you like, on my next drawing i can do a animation to show a skeleton outline sketch so you can see what im talking about. :) i always love to help out people when i can.

Also, I used examples for these sketches from the book "How to draw Manga, Female Charecters." I recommended this book to anyone, it helped me a lot in drawing people.

Hellooo. Im Kia. The timer is off by the way. This only took me two hours. I fell asleep so. Hrm.
This is a vampire. His name is Vince. He is a painter. That is all he does with his time. oh.. well besides luring people into his home with all his charm and then you know.. viciously drain them of their blood. Hes got no heart. Some people may say its impossible but trust me. This guys got none. All he cares about is his painting really.
Anyway. I have a question. I choose to use a style of art that takes me quite a bit of time, and often is very hard for me. I mean, I can accomplish a decent picture with this particular style if I have the patience to sit there and do it. I really like the style, despite the fact it isnt so hot right now. Should an artist be using a style that is so hard for them and challenges them? Will they be able to approve on it? Or should they keep to a style that is easier for them? Because I dont want to continue a style that is hard for me if Im not going to be improving very much because it is above my level.

mazilwolf @ Thursday, November 17th 2005, 12:05 PM
if it whart works for you, its good, screw what every one else says, where i live, every one hates manga, i i decided, stuff it, i like manga!
and its good if it challnes you, life's all about challenges.
but if you wanna try somthing else, try somthing else, you'll never know what you might learn if you dont. 0.-

firstly, id like to say, i really like the candles.... the flames on them are good.
if you ask me the hand looks a little strage, might just be me, i have majorly defromed hands, so i probably just draw them funny myself anyways....
and the eyes to the left looks a lil iffy too...
but apart from that, this is really a great picture! youve drawn the shirt and hair and the way they fold and fall very very well.
and i can see a tonne of detail on them there lips of his.
^^ hope you drop by sometime soon!

Kia @ Thursday, November 17th 2005, 12:49 PM
Thank you for the comment. I agree, with you on the hand comment. I redrew it three or four times. I was pleased with the first one I drew, but I didn't listen to my gut and I erased it, and boom. Hah. Got this funky hand so I gave up. I think it should of been turned a bit more. The thumb should be hidden not the pinky but. =x I'll remember that next time.

mazilwolf @ Thursday, November 17th 2005, 2:28 PM
yeah, that'd be it!! alsooo, i think the fingers might be a tad too thin, but like i said before, my hands are no model to go by......

Arisu @ Thursday, November 17th 2005, 5:34 PM
Hey! Thanks for all the comments. That really made my day. :D Aaand one for you!

If this is the style you're talking about then it is -definitely- not above your level. Haha. This is a really nice character, I could tell he was a vampire just from his face and before reading your comment. I love the eyes. Detailed cloth folds, great shading, nice colored lines that makes everything blend, awesome. His expression is like "I am better than everyone in this room" haha. :D

I say challenge yourself. Use the style you like best, even if it's the hardest/most time consuming. If you practice it you -will- improve and draw faster but with the same awesome quality.

Even if you're better at other styles, go with the one you like best because that's the one you want to get good at, right? Love your own art. :P

Pooky @ Thursday, November 17th 2005, 8:58 PM
I think this looks really cool.
The character looks very nice. I like his hair and the expression on his face. The folds in his shirt look pretty good.
As for the hand, It looks a little strange. I think it's because the fingers are a little too thin. I think it would look better if there was a little more shading, so we could see that the wrist is a little inclined towards us.
I wonder what is the blue thing behind him...

I like the coffin, and I love the 2 candkes. They looks really good.
The only thing that bothers me in the backgound is that we can't see a difference between the floor and the wall. It kinda makes it look like the the character is just standing in front of a wall, and that the coffin is some sort of thing attatched to the wall.

If you like drawing like this, well, you should just continue to do it. You'll quickly be able to do it faster and better. The most important thing is that you have fun... ain't that what drawing is for? ;)

Kia @ Friday, November 18th 2005, 9:22 AM
Pooky Im glad you brought that up about the backround. I wasn't sure where to seperate the wall from the floor, or how. I did try once and only once and it looked a bit awkward. If anyone can tell me how to work that sort of thing it'd be much a appreciated. And thank you for your comments you guys.

Skittles-chan @ Saturday, November 19th 2005, 12:37 PM
Along with the other comments, I'd like to tell you to just draw whatever you like best. Art isn't (supposed to be) about fads, or impressing other people. It's about SELF-expression, and if anyone tries to tell you it's lame, remind them of that lady who made way too much money for her "unmade bed" exhibit.
Anyhow, I really love the way this presents itself. The pale colours, especially the ones you used to shade, and the way his hair falls, and his expression =3 I really like this. The -only- thing that's off to me is his hand, and I've tried drawing similar things to this, and I know that the hand holding the winde is like the hardest part, but practice does make perfect. Keep at it
